I'm very sorry to hear this; my condolences to Jane and her family.
I hope you have a ridiculously happy 50th year!
Could I have Claudia Black instead?
Hands off! She's mine.
:)
In the news today is a good example of how one size does not fit all when it comes to drugs.
A study on coffee drinkers shows that people with a mutation of the CY1A2 gene, because they metabolize caffeine more slowly, are more at risk from heart disease from caffeine consumption.

I guess Public Citzien will now try to ban caffeine. /snark
At the masses I've attended the priest has always said "This is My Body, which has been given up for you."
I hear Pope Benedict wants a new translation of the mass done anyway, so maybe it will change again.
I think we need to spend less time looking at each other's plates and judging them and more time eating.
Ayse, I agree. I'm probably the polar opposite of a vegan, since I low-carb. But I don't talk about it much since I notice non-low carbers do get defensive. They make comments like "I couldn't possibly live without bread/potatoes/rice/whatever." Or they attack ("your kidneys will fall out", "your cholesterol will sky-rocket.", etc). And really, who needs contentious conversion while eating?
I want a roomba! In fact I wanted one for christmas. *glares at santa claus*
Advil works hardly at all on my headaches, but really does a wonderful job for my aching back
Mr dr recently told me to stick to ibuprofen (motrin/advil) or naproxen sodium (aleve) for cramps (suspected endometriosis) because they block the type of prostaglandins produced by the affected organs. Paracetomol wouldn't.
NSAIDs killed my kidneys the first time
Marilee, what happened, if you don't mind my asking?
You know what's odd-- I watched House (first time) the other day on tv. (Because I was too stressed to sleep). The episode was about a supermom who gets into a car accident because of arm twitching. They find out she's popping her kid's Ritalin. (Among other things).
Then yesterday I read about the FDA Ritalin labelling thing.
Seems like an odd coincidence.
So, who paid him for that public mea culpa and how much?
Pity we can't just have a Cold War on Global Warming.
I was thinking dispiritedly on the weekend -- "what's the point of a Gore speech"? -- 5 years too late. But after seeing the coverage on the internets, I'm thinking, "yeah!" We need an opposition leader who can articulate our pain and our outrage.
My favorite Quidditch glitch has to do with size of the crowd at the game.
Maybe the house elves get to watch.
I didn't realize it was just 10 kids per grade per house -- I thought there might be more kids per house that are just not mentioned. But I'm not a careful reader.
The portkey problem always bugged me in Goblet of Fire also, but I then figured no one's ever been shown using a portkey to get into or out of Hogwarts. So there's probably a security spell of some sort that prevents portkeys from functioning in Hogwarts & the grounds. The maze might have had a workaround to that problem -- maybe it wasn't technically part of Hogwarts.
I guess that's just points out the difference between a good book and a bad one -- in a good book the readers will fan-wank the plot-holes to make sense. In a bad one the plotholes will be the excuse to throw the book against the wall.
I thought Aslan ate the White Witch. I wonder if he got brain freeze.
I'm a 3rd world immigrant into a 1st world country. I have no answers.
There is this to consider -- 1st generation immigrants send a lot of money home to relatives in the old country.
Teresa & Xopher, my sympathies. Keeping my fingers crossed and all that.
Um, I read the thread in one sitting and without noting who/what I should email/call. If it's not too much trouble, can Patrick put another update on what we can do to help?
(Anyone know which senators/congresspeeps have the most influence on the FDA?)
Been meaning to ask: so why is it bad if you're in the cold and stop feeling cold? What's going on?
