John McCain is a great man. He's been towing the conservative line to get the nod in 08, but he's no neo-con.

Hate him if you like. Heinlein knows he's given us no reason to love him of late. But he's a great man, and would be the greatest president of the past 50 years.

But he'll never get the Republican nod because he will not bow down to the religious right. And liberals simply want to hate anyone who isn't green or damn near these days. (And with good reason.)

It was truly the darkest day in recent American politics, not when Bush beat Gore, but when Bush beat McCain a few months earlier.

Robert Jordan had a blurb on Ford's covers that said "John M. Ford is the best writer in America, bar none."

It wasn't hyperbole.

He was one of my absolute favorites and I will miss his wonderful stories. I will always cherish having been able to meet him and hear him give a reading of his work.

I find it rather horrific that a faux literary agent making money on the dreams of ignorant folk would be able to call onto the carpet their whistleblowers. There is no justice.

1. There are no troops in Iran. Yet.

2. "The rest of the world can't afford to let us go on this way."

Bullshit. It is not for the rest of the world to fix the problems that the United States has caused by fighting a war against a nation that has never committed and act of war or terrorism against us. We must take responsibility for our own actions; it is not for others to clean up our mess.
