So tonight's the night I make my Letterman debut, part of the chorus backing up Ray Davies, as discussed here a couple weeks ago. When I sneeze violently into my headset mic and then fall off the back of the risers, taking out a miniature skyscraper, that'll be my secret hello! to the Fluorosphere.
The other celebrity guest is Robert Pattinson of the Twilight movies. I can't decide whether I'm more frightened or intrigued by the prospect of twelve hundred screaming fangirls (and their daughters) at the stage door.
Aw, fuck. Fuck.
Word spread; mojo being mustered.
The title of this post sent me to Flashback City, so I thought I'd send y'all a postcard:
"Aristotle was not Belgian. The central message of Buddhism is not 'Every man for himself.' And the London Underground is not a political movement. Those are all mistakes, Otto. I looked them up."
Hey! Yes, I'm going to be part of the Letterman thing. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that.
Dang. Wish I could, but I'll be in rehearsal myself all evening (for this, OMG). See you next time.
[weeps a single crystalline tear at the beauty of it all]
Paging all Beatles enthusiasts, appreciators of quality animation, video-game types, and assorted lifeforms:
The cinematic intro for The Beatles: RockBand has been posted, and it's two minutes forty seconds of mindbending gorgeous awesomeness. Go see.
Lord knows I'm a big fan of sodomy, and all, but what I'd really want to see is the All-Jetpack Hamlet.
C'mon. Polonius is stabbed behind the arras, and his punctured fuel tank goes up with a muffled whoompf... and Ophelia's mad scene, now with extra TOTALLY AWESOME. You know you want it, too.

HALP MY POWERFUL BRAIN IS BLOWED ITSELF UP
In re the Pointy Hat Page, which is awesome: Folks seeking extra bonus lulz might want to read the Talk:Pointy_Hat page, which features a spirited debate on whether to change the name of the page to "Pointed Hat," because "Pointy Hat" sounds childish and silly and very un-Wikipedia. Aargh.
Via Jonathan Coulton's Twitter feed today: A router sings "Still Alive." It is -- how you say? -- teh awesome.
The latest model of those new trains -- not the one on the 2/3 but the newer one running elsewhere -- is excellent, even if you ignore the West Side Story music. That big LED sign that tells you where on the line you are, and updates as you go? Love it.
Thena @15: I find myself tapping my feet to the dishwasher or the laundry machines all the time. So catchy!
Regarding the new sidelight of Teresa's about the epidemic of suicides in India: Wow, that comment thread went septic immediately. The story itself is horrifying, but the response of the readership is more so.
I've identified the source, but all that has done is remind me that my cultural education is woefully incomplete.
Welcome home, though!
John L @46: Maybe you can't....
Abi, I was getting bored with the current project on the needles, and now my purpose is clear. Hokey smokes, I need to make a SackBoy. Now.
If I may request a clarification: I keep seeing variations on the phrase "people who have had chicken pox in their youth can get shingles later." Is there some difference in shingles statistics for those who get chicken pox as adults? I suspect not, but I figured I'd ask. I got the chicken pox during the February of my sophomore year in college. Just as it cleared up, I got the flu. And then I got pink eye. Yeah, that was a fun month.
Anyway, having seen my stepmother go a few rounds with shingles, I'm a little neurotic about the possibility of having to do that myself.
IJWTS that "helpiness" is an excellent word and we should spread it to the far corners of the net as soon as possible.
That's all. I'm going to bed now.
