Tracie # 268 - Thanks! I'll warn the stepmonster; she's a long-time customer too, so she's bound to have gift cards lying around.

Crossing my fingers for Borders - I always enjoy stopping in those shops when I'm out of town.

Sorry for a strange request, but this the only site I could think of where people a)knew bookstore distribution and b)cared.

A relative walked into a Borders yesterday for an NYT and found no newspapers at all. The clerk claimed that the distributor wouldn't supply them any more. Is this happening anywhere else, or is this simply a spectacular example of blame-shifting?

Erik Nelson@ 660:

Sorry, that was a pretty awful geek check.

ELI-3's out of John M. Ford's The Princes of the Air. ELI-3 was a...well, I'd guess you'd have to call it a weaponized court language, refined by the book's diplomatic corps to gain the ultimate rhetorical advantage.

So what was ELI-3?

Ford writing perfect Shakespearean prose.

I got on the Web today and Livejournal cheerfully informed me that it was "Talk Like Shakespeare Day".

Without thinking, I answered out loud, "You mean ELI-3 Day!"

I miss you, Mr. Ford.

Almost as good - I got Territory in the mail yesterday.

The book was read in a seven hour marathon right after the package was opened. Ah, there's nothing like hitting the sack with the "Emma Bull" glow still in full force. I have high hopes for the promised sequel(!)

I have to get Gospel of the Knife next - thanks for the heads up!

It all looks good, it really does, but...

New Emma Bull. 2007.

Can I get an Amen!
