maybe i'm biased (well, of course i am), but the Daily Show hasn't yet found a way to satirize Obama. they keep trying the "Messiah" thing, but since nobody but hardcore wingnuts buy that, it seems really weak. they had some fun with his 30 minute infomercial, but the funny bits weren't really about Obama.
i hope they don't fall back on the wingnut critique of him (messiah, over-promised hope, etc) for their jokes. i'd hate to have to stop watching ...
another handy browser trick: ctrl + roll the mouse wheel.
it will change the text size, which is very handy for pages where the designer has used really small text.

First, if they're running a commercial anti-virus program, that virtually guarantees that they are running Windows.
Diebold voting machines run on a custom version of Windows CE.
an impeachment during a presidential election while we're in the middle of two wars ?
nah guh hapn
that was awesome.
wow. that P.G. School Of Rock has some amazing talent.
and speaking of... Adrian Belew's new band is him with two kids from the Paul Green School Of Rock: Eric and Julie Slick. and they are simply incredible. when i saw them last August, i was blown away. they completely tear up all those old King Crimson songs. and Eric Slick is the best drummer i've ever seen, live. they're going to be back in Chapel Hill again, in a couple of weeks, and i can't wait.
no mail, no calls, no commercials.
nobody gives a crap about primary voters in NC.
Taking a portable harddrive to your office - or a friend's house once a month or so is some of the most effective data protection money can buy
i have a big external HD i use for full monthly backups. i leave it at work except for the one weekend a month when it comes home to get the new backup set.
last week, though, my job moved offices, and i was away on vacation. i didn't want to bring the HD to the beach with me, didn't want to leave it at home, and didn't want to pack it and risk the movers smashing it. quite a dilemma for a data-paranoid like me!
in the end, i did pack it (stuffed in the middle of a big wad of plastic grocery bags) and let the movers take it to the new space.
Are you calling Ann Coulter a respected right wing pundit? Listened to, yes. Respected by whom?
a recent poll of right-wing blogs puts Coulter and Malkin tied for 2nd, behind Limbaugh. category? their favorite people on the right.
i'm not sure if "favorite" is closer to "respected" or "listened-to", but it's an interesting little survey anyway.
Ginevra = Italian form of Guinevere
would Occlumency have even helped Harry ? it's presumably effective in blocking other people from reading your mind, but what if the soul of that other person partially resides inside your own mind?
Snape was basically doomed by his sorting.
seems that way.
but remember, the hat takes your wishes into account, too.
I'm not loving Godiva right now either
same here. quality has gone down, as brand visibility has gone up.
but, i do like me a Hershey bar now and then, and a Mr Goodbar is good in a pinch. i really like those little Dove miniatures, too. they have a really great smooth texture.
Microsoft's "Live Search" gives a few more hits on that string.
about that 'abstract art' bit. Google Maps is a great source for psychedelic false-color imagery. here are some interesting things i found on Google Maps up along the north coast of Alaska.
my uncle once made a cannon out of a foot-long steel tube (maybe .50 cal), capped at one end with a heavy-duty screw-on pipe cap. he forged his own ammunition by melting lead pipe in the woodstove, then pouring it into molds. he loaded it with gunpowder he made using chemicals he bought through the mail. and he ignited it by running the two wires from an extension cord into two holes he'd drilled in the sealed end of the tube. firing was the simple matter of plugging the cord into the wall - then resetting the breakers. it was strong enough to easily shoot through 1/2 plywood at 15 feet. eventually it blew up and put shrapnel all over the side of the house... he was firing it from underneath the back deck.
oh hell, the internet has nothing to do with kids liking explosives. i was making my own gun powder and fireworks before the WWW was even invented. i learned it the old fashioned way - from my pyromaniac uncle.
Serge, glad to be of trivial assistance :)
and if you like (or have fond memories of) Looney Tunes music, you'll probably like The Carl Stalling Project.
