Posted on entry Boycott Black Friday at Wal-Mart ::: November 26, 2009, 02:40 AM:
The only reason I've gone shopping on Friday after Thanksgiving is because I'm on my way home from work when the stores open at 4 am. Every where I've been people have been nice, chatting in line, no pushing or shoving. But I'm not looking for a Wii or a cheap laptop, or the must have toy, I'm in line at Kohl's or Kmart.
Either way, I've got the one thing I wanted to get this year already - on line.

I still live in horror that I will do this.

Miss S. is the most precious part of E's and my life. And I realize just how easily I could do something like this.

*shudder*

Posted on entry Making things, as well as light ::: September 16, 2008, 08:31 PM:
I'm working on the following:

Knitting - cat toy, Sweater for the 2 year old, and mystery project.

Sewing - Cut out or in the planning stages - 2 dresses for the 2 year old, a few pocketbooks, a jumpsuit for the 2 year old, (need to gather the waist, attach the bodice, hem and button hole that one).

Jewelry - various pendants and earrings in stages of completion.

Sewing machines - I found a Viking 1020 at an estate sale for 40.00. It won't zig zag, so it's at the shop. *sigh* Then I found 2 Elna Supermatics at a thrift store for 35.00 each. I was going to pass on them, until a friend bought them and gave one to me as a gift. The Featherweight needs a new foot controller/power cord. The Supermatic works and is a sweet machine, but I need to get a zig zag cam for it.

Old sewing machines seem to find me - so I'm looking for a repair class for me to take.

I wish I had more time to craft.

Posted on entry McCain's Health Care Plan ::: September 16, 2008, 11:58 AM:
We have good friends who were in the UK and wanted to come back to the US, (aging parents, tird of being abroa, etc). Just as they were about to start packing the shipping container to come back, One of them was diagnosed with colon cancer. Now they are resigned to never coming back to live here as they can't get health insurance in the US, even in Mass the state where it's mandatory to be able to get it.

We've always been lucky enough to have affordable health coverage through our employers. Other friends are not so lucky - like the one who just had a stroke.

*Snugs* on the positive stress test. Know that Ernie, Sarah and I are thinking and pulling for you.

On day 5 after the c section for Sarah I wanted to get home to my own bed and house and cats more than anything. I understand the need to escape.

Ernie is fond of Chimay. Last year, I bought him a bottle and stuck it in the fridge, because I knew he was having an extremely crappy day at work. When he got home, it was nice and cold. I handed it to him when he walked into the kitchen.

We'll be home, just the three of us as Sarah has a horrid cold and we don't want people to get sick. I also have to work tomorrow night so that's another reason to stay home.

Posted on entry Wedding apparel, never worn ::: August 20, 2007, 12:16 AM:
Hey Brenda - David's Bridal has off the rack gowns to size 16 +.

Do what Xopher said - they can't stop you. Bring a friend.

Eastern Star officers need white gowns. Many people use wedding gowns that have been altered. (ie: trains removed, etc.) If you are smart you go to a gown closeout sale with a few friends and have a fun time.

1985 - 1 year out of highschool and 1 year at Salem State College. Still living at home. Met people who are still very good friends. I think I may have actually gone on my first date that year.

And the whole wedding coincidence - very odd and cool.

Posted on entry Sock yarn outrage! ::: January 15, 2007, 12:38 AM:
I think sock yarns are like beads. ADDICTIVE. I found I could knit a sock on the tiny bamboo dpn's - and I was working on such a pair at VP 6.

I lost the pattern though and I have 1/2 a sock in a ziplock witht he ball of little lola fron Shaefer yarns just waiting for me to either send for the pattern or find it.

I keep wanting to knit socks - but I need the gratification produced by one of my triple stranded afghans knit on size 17 needles. I gave one to Teresa and Patrick as a gift one year and they can attest to it's warm and cozy qualities. You can also knit one in less than 3 days if you push.
Posted on entry Sock yarn outrage! ::: January 14, 2007, 05:24 AM:
I love yarn. I sell yarn. I do not knit socks - it's the dp needles.(long story) I love to knit - but this kind of thing just causes nothing but problems. A Bank should be receptive to their customers. This guys clearly have thier thumbs up thier butts - turning down legitimate businesses - while people like Booster Entertainment get away with cancelling a media con and stiffing people for thousands. (paypal and some credit card companies are refusing the chargebacks.)
Posted on entry VP 10: Home again ::: October 26, 2006, 04:45 AM:
I see a lot of posts upstream about people who want to come to VP, and find tons of reasons not too. Just apply, drat it all. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. ( A week on Martha's Vineyard, Thing and Mafia, and all sorts of fun things. Knitting! Beads! Cat waxing! Sarah! Hmm, I'm biased on the last item. )

Carol and Jen - I can't say it enough - thank you for your tireless efforts and help for the past few years. You both contributed in endless ways to making VP work.

Viable Paradise 11 - Sept 30th to October 6/7th 2007. Next year's group could call themselves the Elevenses.

I had a brain before the workshop - I think it's still in one of the rooms waiting for me to dig it outof the piece of luggage it was hiding in. But it was a good workshop.

Posted on entry Why Barack Obama can kiss my ass ::: July 30, 2006, 07:58 AM:
The Dobrich family was singled out by the community they live in and they were percecuted by their faith. Alex - their son was openly called Jew boy and other slurs. They were told to accept Jesus as their savior and to stop wearing that damn yarmuke. Their older daughter was singled out by remarks from a local pastor at her HS graduation, as being a special student who needed guidance from G-d and Jesus. They were the only Jewish family in their community and they were run out on a rail after they protested the local school board's decision to have a Christian based curriculum county wide.
They sued, and their address was published as part of an outing of people who sue via the ACLU. They moved due to the death threats adn harassment. Granted I may not have all the facts right here - but when a Jewish or a Muslim or Hindi/buddhist family is told to accept Jesus or else, there is something wrong.

If I've offended, I apologise.
