Sorry I'm being a grinch. It's just, well, dioxins.
Add to the ordinary dioxin-load (a lot less than it used to be,
but, still...) whatever heavy-metals are present in the fancy
wrapping papers (often cadmium, and sometimes, yes, lead), and
burning it in the fireplace really IS a bad idea.
