I'm surprised anyone is even debating the moral and ethical
implications of torture. I was under the impression that it was a
common belief of the average westerner, not to mention the average
American, that torture is simply wrong. I've been to a lot of
blogs, pro-war and anti-war, and from what I've seen, most of the
pro-war bloggers are defending the concept of this war, with the
argument that it's all about a regime change. They say that the US
has a duty to invade Iraq and remove Saddam because he is evil,
because he gasses, tortures, and murders his own people.
So if this is the case, then allowing torture in the US would
suggest that someone should invade and remove the Bush
administration from power.
Using torture would make the US just as bad as the people it is
torturing. Assuming the US isn't already as bad or worse than that
group in the first place, but that's a whole other debate.
