Teresa (#4), I don't think it's so much that Taylor doesn't believe that facts or truth exist as that he has no confidence in his ability to find them (or even to identify them, should he happen to stumble over one in the dark).

The other big problem with Hayden's "thinking" is that if we really didn't want the terrorists knowing what our limits are, we shouldn't have signed things like the Geneva Conventions and the UN Conventions on Torture.

Ex-Governor Bush, on the other hand, may have gone to one of those fancy Eastern colleges, but he acts reassuringly dumb.

I'm not at all convinced that it's an act.

One from spoken Engish that drives me up the wall is "the point is mute"; the CEO of a company I used to work for said that regularly. I don't think I've ever seen it in print, though.

Here's the kicker: apparently it's only verboten in the DoD regs to do the appearance. There's nothing there about arranging the appearance. Which makes it very convenient, since if the higher-ups are doing the arranging, the people making the appearances don't have to worry about being court-martialed.

Unless, of course, a public outcry raises the need for a few (more) bad apples to make an example of. Either way, the people doing the real damage are at a safe remove from any consequences.

Um. I thought the candy canes were symbolic of his bishop's staff.

Of course, no one could have forseen that this administration could have been such a complete disaster....

"Special rights" (typically in the context of ("...for homosexuals") seems to be a formulation that the right has used to some success.

How about a little verbal judo? No special rights for corporations.
