# 79 That's not so much the poop, as it is the, uh, stuff they bring back with them. Or maybe my idea of what stinks has been altered by being pooped on by more birds then I care the think about. (The worst? Geese. They rely on fermentation to digest their food, unlike many other birds, and have lots of bacteria in their poops. The best was lorikeets. Their's smells like fruit or flowers due to the high sugar content of their food.)
#72 If they're like a seagull there might not be that much of a smell to it. Bird poop is high in uric acid (that's what makes it white) and uric acid is a natural disinfectant. That's why New World vultures poop on their legs, to disinfect them. As a result, the bacteria that causes the bad poop smell we would normally expect isn't present.

I thought it was unConstitutional for the US military to deployed against US civilians within the US borders? Excluding the National Guard which should be under the control of the governors. Besides, frankly, I can't tell one uniform from another (except for the Marines, but that's only because my sister was one), and with all the rumors I keep hearing about how Blackwater was called in after Katrina I would have no way to tell if that solider in the street was really US military or a 'private contractor'. And if law and order had broken down that far I wouldn't be trusting anyone I didn't know personally.
Now, a solider without a gun, or maybe only a holstered handgun, I might trust that person if he's with a group and looks non-crazy.
Bleach is kicking my butt right now, but I've been meaning to get into FMA forever. Seems like the sort of thing I would like.
The turn around for fansubs is less then 20 hours for Bleach, definitely. Actually, if using the posting times at http://www.bleachexile.com/ is any clue it looks like it takes just eight to ten hours after a RAW has been uploaded for the sub to get posted. I'm not sure how long it takes for the RAW to go up, but I am willing to bet it goes up fairly quickly after the episode airs.
I do know that it took about three days after the Bleach Movie (Memories of Nobody) was released on DVD in Japan for it to get fansubbed, counting the time it took to get the RAW up. Fandom was highly impressed, apparently most people were expecting it to take as much as a week.
Contrast those times with the DVD releases, which often take a year or more after release in Japan. Necessary, I know, because of doing the dub, but if you're a fan and you want to be current with your series you basically have to download fansubs. Especially if you are like me and get your entertainment from Teh Interwebs, and not cable.
Another problem with the DVDs is that they cost between $18-28, depending on where you are buying (I personally always purchase from Amazon, since it's usually about ten bucks cheaper). This wouldn't be a huge problem, really, if there was a decent number of episodes per DVD, but (again, to use Bleach as an example) they usually only have four, and with some series, three episodes per DVD. Meaning that if you buy the DVDs you're paying $4+ per episode. A series like Bleach, which as of this week has 144 episodes (Japanese release) adds up fast.
Personally I think Bandai et all should hire some of the fansubbers and harness their power for Good, not Evil, ie official bootlegs that go up the day of the Japanese release. The fansubbers do it for fun but I think a few could be found who wouldn't mind being paid for it. I think iTunes charges $1.99 per TV episode. Even that would be a bit spendy for me for a large series, (I, personally, would prefer to pay a flat monthly fee for uploads, which is pretty much what I did when I was getting caught up with Bleach), it's one solution.

Thanks, now I just got to go find her website. (too lazy to do it tonight, though). If she writes mostly for Smallville/DCU I probably won't be reading any of it, mostly because I don't follow those fandoms. Right now I'm rather obsessed with anime/magna fandoms for whatever reason, when it comes to fanfiction.
On the other hand, that's the sort of thing I like to have bookmarked as needed.
Okay, I am curious. I love fanfiction, but I've never read any of Naomi's stuff (that I know of), other then her books (which are really excellent, although I did burn out about half way through the third one for some reason that wasn't the author's fault), and now I want to know what fandoms she writes for. Anyone know or willing to tell?

iTunes. If you don't think I could easily spend $100 worth of store credit at iTunes you are sadly mistaken. That's like ten albums, or so. And I am a consumer whore.*
*note: that's assuming the store credit counts for iTunes.
These funny little guys have a habit of wriggling their way into our hearts, don't they?
I'm waiting for my little one to go, he's about two and starting to lose his hair. I'm not sure I'll get another. He was a male returned to my pet store, which is a 'female' store, he'd been purchased at a 'male' store. Splitting the stores into male and female stores helps prevent unwanted pregnancies. I took him home because he was sooo cute, and had been there for awhile since we couldn't sell him due to him being male (I forget the reason why we couldn't just send him back to his store-of-origin). Supposedly he bit his first owner, which is odd because he's the sweetest thing ever. I'll be sorry to see him go.
It's on the local CBS channel, along with a picture of the event, apparently. http://wbztv.com/local/local_story_059122735.html Police Blow Up Suspicious Device in Boston. This is the first time I've seen a traffic-counter described at 'suspicious'.
Whenever I get suspicious email supposedly from ebay or Paypal I always report them to those companies. spoof@ebay.com and spoof@paypal.com. Spam in general should be reported to spam@uce.gov
Oh man. Their entry on George W. Bush is just embarrassing. Here's the current one it its entirety.
"George W. Bush
From Conservapedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Is the president of the United States of America. Republican. Was elected in 2000 in a disputed election over Democratic candidate Al Gore. In 2004, George W. Bush won reelection by a popular margin of millions of votes, including a landslide victory in the State of Florida where the outcome had been so close in 2000. Democratic candidate John Kerry quickly conceded defeat the day after the election.
For many months after John Kerry conceded the outcome of the 2004 election to George W. Bush, some liberals continued to claim that the election had somehow been stolen by voter fraud. When Al Gore went on a speaking tour in 2006 to promote government controls over industry in the name of global warming, many liberal fans greeted him with the belief that he had somehow won the election in 2000.
Son of president George H. W. Bush.
The current Bush administration is a Divided Government"
Pathetic. I almost feel sorry for these guys. At the very least they could have listed who his wife is, what she did before she became First Lady. Who their children are, what sort of pet they had, and his previous job as Governor of Texas, or that he went to Harvard Business school. And that's just the non-controversial stuff I could remember off the the top of my head.
I would have that that entry was vandalized, but all of the older versions are as lame, or lamer. Very sad.
#8 Well, that gives the Iraqis something to aim at, anyways. Personally I think Japan should just call in The Major, rather then Hello Kitty. She would kick butt while at the same time exposing The Giant Conspiracy that lead us to war. Because she's awesome like that. Likely said conspiracy involves the evil American Empire launching a nuke while simultaneously having the CIA torture villagers just because.
Man, I love that show/movie/manga/franchise.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Japan's national obsession with Teh Cute extends to their military. Why don't they just go all the way and enlist Hello Kitty?
#111 First of all, go through and cut the stems of all the tree-climbing ivy and pull as much of it off as you can. You need to kill that stuff first since climbing ivy fruits quicker then ground-growing ivy.
Then you need to start pulling up the ground stuff. The roots will form a mat which you should roll up like a giant carpet. DON'T let this mat stay on the ground, if it is on any earth it will root itself. Haul it off and burn it, if you can. Pulling up ivy is back-breaking, so I recommend hiring a bunch of strong high school students over several weekends. Try to pull out as much of the roots as possible. You won't get them all, but when the roots re-sprout they will be easier to pull up. Fortunately the roots don't go too deep...usually. You will need to keep pulling anything that pops up in the cleared area, probably once a week for a couple years at least.
Roundup is not effective, according to my mother who has been battling ivy for years. It might kill a bit, but not enough to really make any kind of dent in the overall amount. Mom tried dipping the cut ivy ends in a bottle of Roundup, and the plant only experienced very minor die-back.
Better raccoons then skunks, any day. At least when a raccoon is turned into road pizza it doesn't stink up the entire neighborhood.
What amazes me are the coyotes around here (Portland, Oregon). I saw one a few nights ago running down a street in a residential neighborhood while walking a stray dog we'd temporarily taken in. It ran into someone's backyard upon seeing me. Just one more reason to tell people to keep their cats inside, and make sure their small dogs are supervised at all times outdoors.
The raccoons native to the North West are the biggest subspecies, too. They can weigh 30lbs or more, and take on a black bear. Coyotes steer well clear of them.
I tell you what, if the UK and Europe promise to take back the starlings, we'll take back the raccoons and gray squirrels. Any takers?
