Given that Pascal was thinking in an environment where the choices were christian or atheist would a modern multi-cultural version of his wager involve spread betting or some sort of accumulator?
I seem to recall a Barrington Bayley story with a robot bar that had a consciousness-detector on the door to keep our those cyborg robot-wanabees. The conscious robot gets in anyway by switching his consciousness off but leaving a job running to turn it back on when he is inside. I say seem to remember, because of course Dr Mabuse is my lord and master.
Congratulations to you all. Here in the UK we will now celebrate by letting off fireworks and burning a catholic in effigy. Baby steps...
Bill Bailey claims that French ambulances are actually playing a tune but everyone thinks it just a four note figure because of the speed of the vehicle. His performance of the full version (with lyrics) is on youtube.
The crime here seems to have been "conduct difficult for the police to categorise". People must not do things for fun. We are not here for fun. There is no reference to fun in any Act of Parliament.
Gimli's Heroes
A hard-bitten cynical Gondorian soldier gets wind of a fortune in Gold in a barely guarded fortress. Only trouble is, the fortress is behind enemy lines...
"You didn't tell me about any Mumakil Moriarity..."
Torchwood is the bad Kirk and the Sarah-Jane Adventures is the good Kirk.
Alas the script writers of Torchwood seem to have derived their scientific education from watching bad TV drama. Still, next week's is written by P J Hammond (creator of Sapphire & Steel) so we live in hope. Actually it reminds me a lot of that show (as does the new Who) because they value a good "image" over something that actually makes sense. I would be fine with this if they didn't keep calling it science fiction.
The first reference to a binary chemical based terrorist attack I can remember is the TV film "Binary" from 1972. Heroic Ben Gazzara prevents EG Marshall from doing something unpleasant to a convention of Democrats. I forget the details other than that Michael Crichton has something to do with the original plot and Joseph Wiseman was in it.
Yes it was as magnificent as it seems. One sour note: the deputy mayor welcomed the sultan to London and then went on about how having a giant time-travelling elephant stopping traffic showed how well London would cope with the Olympics. Given how much cooler the elephant is than any possible sporting event this was a bit of an atmosphere killer. Couldn't they give the 2 billion pounds budgeted for the games to Artichoke instead? Most of us already know that some people can run faster than others.
Further to Eve's mention of "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" they are also responsible for "Come on Baby Light my Fire" being sung to the tune of "The Red Flag".
