MyNoWriDeFoWo* is today, such that I am actively suppressing the part of my brain devoted to [nope, cannot even meta-mention it, nothing to think here, move along]. However, were I to have a novel project- which I must strongly believe that I don't, lest I get distracted--I could come back to this thread later on in the month.

My nonfiction writing deadline for work
Who in the fluorosphere is in San Jose for the World Fantasy Con? My significant and I may still make it for the weekend*, but if not the location is also close enough for me to drop by for a soda, if a meetup were to exist outside of the badges-only-zone.

* while it sold out, memberships-for-resale are popping up at random times and prices.
Kip@24,
And here I thought he didn't look a day over...nevermind.
Happy Birthday Jon! I am drinking tea in a made-cup from Japan, contemplating glazes, and remembering when the auction news came in Montreal.
Joel@828,
the local craft stores here often carry egg-shaped foam rounds. Those would be my first thought for a workbase. No second thoughts, though, but I'd want to do the same fix if any of my pysanka-of-sentimental-value broke.
Anyone else on ML out on the playa (Black Rock City / Burningman) this year?
All my art projects (including an art car) are lit with fluorescent bulbs, so I'm doing my part for the Fluorosphere.
It is Monday afternoon (I leave tomorrow afternoon), and I'm contemplating the remaining supplies: if you bought one of these, do you need/want it back?
1. Small electric fan
2. good quality corkscrew
3. plates, plastic cups
Also, who requested the ice cider?
This is just to say
I have not eaten
The Maple Pie
or the Ice Cider
which was
at the party
being saved
for a good moment
Give me
some ideas
they'll be sweet...
Abi, if you're there,
1. We can reconvene virtual Abi-- they have ethernet.
2. please update this post. We're in the Lower level, room Cartie A and B.
Thanks
The party is now in the Lower level (basement) rooms Cartier A and B: this is where the Birthday party was last night.
(mods- please add that the room has changed (again) to 2131, not 2831 (and not 631 the original).
Room change to 2131. This is a lovely suite with more than twice the usable space as the Denver party, and no staircases.
Also, Twitter Feed "MakingParty" for Logistics and Announcements
If you're in Montreal and planning to attend the ML party, please note a room change: we're now in 2131 (a great suite: no stairs, and more than twice the usable room than the Denver party)
a quick day-before request to put in RSVPs and might-drop-bys: we'll be doing some shopping today. (and internet accessing will be more intermittant: the internet is not, in fact, like oxygen, to be taken continuously. It is like food.)

Earl @ #2,
You may appreciate this story:
I went to a party right after I'd returned from a conference and roadtrip in Germany and Austria. I was telling people how much I enjoyed driving 100mph on the Autobahn, where everyone drives politely and well (no awkward passing- people just pull over if you're faster).
Mike was there. "Kathryn," he said, "The Autobahn: wasn't that built by Hitler?"
No one knew what to say.
The Miracle Fruit tablets arrived today, and I did a mini taste test at lunch, using cafeteria selections.
While there were no lemons, several other commonly-tested foods (onions, granny smith apples, pickled veggies, vinegar) became much more interesting. And chilled cherry tomatoes tasted straight-off-the-vine.
Earl Cooley III @IV,
No. Acai is the pomegranate of 2009: a fruit high in antioxidants and hyped in health claims.
Miracle fruit (Synsepalum dulcificum) has a glycoprotein molecule, miraculin, that temporarily causes the tongue to taste sour/bitter flavors as sweet. This has an interesting and fun effect on foods where sour is a dominant flavor- it can make their overall flavor more complex (because you can taste the notes normally hidden behind the sour).
People have parties devoted to exploring this effect: that's what we'll be doing.
There's now a post for the Miracle Fruit tasting supraparty.
Even if you've already RSVP'd to the main post, could you re-RSVP and look over this page if you're interested in the tasting party?
We'd like to divide up the bringing of the most interesting drinks-Balsamic vinegars, for example-because they're most easily brought There and Back Again by a multitude of volunteers.
-- Unlike standard party drinks, other parties are unlikely to accept donations of these as leftovers (and if you bring a small bottle, it won't be hard to bring it home).
-- We'll only need enough for sampling and sipping.
