re Rikibeth's @ 37 They retired Thistle? What's next, Periwinkle? Outrageous.

I like the Crayola idea - may start using it to describe colors in things I make. Of course that means I'll have to go out and buy a box and that'll probably get me weepy over the changes, since the color names I have lodged in my memory are all from the 60s.

TNH, Mac - you're welcome :-)
Now, back to my taxes...

This is the current word from MacAllister Stone, owner of AW (thanks Birol, for the email!):

"Yep. AW is down, right now. The tech line has a minimum 4 hour wait, the last time we tried to call, or sometimes it's just busy. The story seems to be that they're having problems with at least one major switch being down BUT there have also been repeated brown-outs in the city where the server is located.

We're working on it, as much as we actually can. But most of this is out of our hands."
Posted on entry Fimbul Winter ::: December 22, 2008, 03:37 PM:
I spent last week in Fayetteville, NC (my son is finally home from his tour in Iraq and I went there for the "reunion ceremony" at Pope AFB/Ft. Bragg) where it was warmer and dryer than my home in the SF Bay area. I had prepared for the trip by packing many turtlenecks and sweaters to compensate for my lack of a real winter coat and found myself over-prepared.

I read recently that my old home-town in the Mojave Desert of SoCal got some significant snowfall, it's beautiful to see the desert in the snow, and real snowmen in yards instead of the spray painted tumbleweed ones, but I'm glad I don't have to deal with it. The LA times has some great pictures showing the Antelope Valley and Las Vegas areas after the snow.

Bruce Schneier @ 394 - I sure hope you're wrong - perhaps it will still seem close enough over the next hour for the after work voters to still go to the polls.

MacAllister @ 352 - thanks for the H/T but credit goes to Sam Kelly @ 91 who pointed it out first.

Prop. 8 and the re-election of the local congresswoman, Anna Eschoo are the only regional votes I'm really interested in.

Anna is a strong voice for technology and has a good voting record as far as Silicon Valley issues are concerned, so I think she'll win.

Prop. 8 I can only pray (is that ironic?) goes down in resounding defeat. As for the Presidential vote, Obama is strongly ahead in California, so I don't think there will be any surprises there.

I've just had a disappointing email saying that I was not able to obtain a table as a vendor at LosCon. I'm first on the wait list, but they say it's doubtful any space will free up.

Is anyone going to be a vendor at LosCon and be interested in sharing (with contribution to cost and any help I can provide) a small amount of their space with a person who is just getting started in jewelry sales at cons? If so, just email me.

I'm learning to make vintage style jewelry with brass stamped filigrees and glass 'gems' and semi-precious stones to go along with the beaded necklace lanyards and other jewelry stuff I make. Elise M. plus Lee, Marilee, Julie L. and Carol Kimball in the "Strike Plate" thread, have been helpful inspirations from Making Light.

Greg, #482 - if you email me, I can point you to a fund that supports all the defendants, not just P&E.

The look on the Captain Hammer pony is spot on. So smug...

I had a boss, whom I appreciated and respected in every way but two. 1) he loved putting commas in places I couldn't see the reason for and 2) he sent his emails out in Comic Sans 14pt.

I don't know, Serge, "wow, that Abi sure is a font of wisdom about typefaces" or something like that...puns really aren't my forte.

Waiting for Serge to come along with a particularly good font pun now. All the ones I can think of are really lame.

If there are issues with the word testicle, then perhaps scrotum and ball-sack might be considered? My son, who is 'In the Army Now', would definitely use those instead of testicle(s) although he probably wouldn't spell them correctly.
Posted on entry Moose Festival ::: August 21, 2008, 04:13 PM:
I've had moose-burger tacos, and they were very tasty. Too bad the festival is 3,121 miles away. Although Google maps says I could do it in 1 day 22 hours via Salt Lake City, Omaha, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto and Montreal.

Suzanne's personal experience advice @ 122 reminds me of the advice I gave to my daughter,
"Never get your hair done at a place called the 'Hair Saloon'."

My dad, an Air Force sergeant and life support specialist, always told us "Keep your feet clean." Seemed to fit any occasion.

I got to say hi to Xopher (but left before the chocolates were served) and see Charlie in his infamous tee shirt. I also got to see Lee briefly. Stood in the closet (the only space I could find when I got there) for as long as my claustrophobia could stand it.

It's strange being an extrovert with claustrophobia - I love people but can only handle them in small groups. So sorry I missed seeing Serge at the party, but happy to have seen him in passing a couple of times around the convention center.
