Speaking as a former and probably future student, you wildly
overestimate the influence a teacher might have on an undergraduate
student. I didn't go to Columbia, or any other private institution
of learning, but I knew how to ignore a professor when necessary,
and I suspect the same is true of most Columbia students today.
Even if students were empty vessels waiting to be filled with
knowledge (or idiocy), you'd still have to deal with the fact that
most of them aren't listening anyway.
