Just saw an ad on the Dallas Morning News web site.

"National Clandestine Service Careers."

O-kay.

::Waves to Sharon @329::

Collin County will start to release today's totals at 8:30 CST.

Patrick, I agree. Texas won't go for Obama. My red county just released early voting totals and it was 61/37% McCain. Closer than I thought it would be, though.

I'll be shocked - but happy - if Texas goes for Obama. I'm in Collin County, which is predicted go to "purple" this year. This was the reddest county in TX four years ago.

The more I think about it, it's spoofed.

Pardon me while I take another round of cold meds and fall into bed...

Yeah, that's a Michigan race. Perhaps it's a 234 number? Check this out.

Dang it, guys. Sending more GT's from up Texas way.
Posted on entry "Bring it on!" ::: September 13, 2008, 03:13 PM:
I'm a Texan, and that kind of behavior is considered stupid.

Even though we're way north, we made preparations. The storm took an eastward path from us, but you don't know these things two or three days in advance.

Best thing I did was top off the gas tank before the prices went up. ;-)
Posted on entry Hurricane Ike ::: September 12, 2008, 01:05 PM:
No matter where you live, you may want to consider gassing up your car. Prices here in the DFW area spiked 15 cents overnight and the current predictions don't look good for the refineries along the Texas Gulf Coast.

Get it while it's (relatively) cheap.

The first outer bands have moved in here, though we don't expect rain until after midnight. I'll be posting updates and pictures on the blog as long as we have power.

Stefan Jones @33: How else do you drive the Democrats out of Texas before an election?
Posted on entry Hurricane Ike ::: September 11, 2008, 09:51 AM:
I'm in the DFW area, and the latest advisory from the NWS states we may get hurricane level wind gusts here over the weekend. As they say - secure your outdoor stuff, gas up, make sure you have plenty of batteries, water, and food you can prepare without electricity.

I'm going out today to stock up and gas up. The stores will be a mess tomorrow.
Posted on entry You wrote what? ::: September 05, 2008, 03:23 PM:
How about the Canadian poet James McIntyre's Ode on the Mammoth Cheese?

We have seen the Queen of cheese
Laying quietly at your ease.
Gently fanned by evening breeze --
Thy fair form no flies dare seize.

All gaily dressed soon you'll go
To the great Provincial Show.
To be admired by many a beau
In the city of Tornto.

Thanks. I needed an excuse to replace this keyboard. Really. ;-)

Wesley @119: It depends entirely on the newspaper. Some large dailies do "get" the idea of online communities. And like every other online venue, there are nutjobs who try to hijack any conversation. The site connected to the large local daily does a pretty good job of moderating. The site maintained by the paper in my suburb doesn't. The former site has some good conversations going, and often the reporters participate. The latter is rapidly turning into a haven for the nutjobs due to the lack of moderation.

That reminds me of a very old joke about being out of onions. I'm sure you've heard it, so I won't repeat.

You're welcome. ;-)

@Caroline: There is a move afoot to move the primary to January or February, but the Texas leg won't be in session in time to change the date for 2008.

Absolute power? This is why I'm a writer. Bwah.
