Hmm - this assumes:
1) the bombing does not help them win the election (which I don't
see - but U.S. citizens have a really weird "rally round the flag"
reflex sometimes)
2)Also assuming a bombing would hurt them electorally, then a
bombing for the purpose you give assumes the Republicans have no
hope of taking the White House or at least a house of Congress.
In other words, you probably are not being cynical enough.
