Two sprang instantly to mind:

First, chronologically, someone said 'Hey, you haven't read Heinlein? You really need to read this book." Terribly cliched, yes, but I was seventeen at the time. And it was Stranger In A Strange Land. It was long, overbearing, incredibly preachy - and exactly what I needed: to have my mind blown open to other possibilities about living, loving, believing.

Second, taking a midday bath at the absolute right time to miss a Very Important Phonecall. Internet Friend calls to cry on my shoulder, but Partner picks up instead. Listens. Invites Friend to live with us. She's been here six years this summer, and if he hadn't offered, if she hadn't accepted, if her parents hadn't agreed, I'd probably be dead.

Heck, a bonus third:

Sitting in Intro to Soc, still having not decided whether I liked the professor or not.. but he notices I have a knack for the material. "Segreti," he says to me at the end of class, "you're going to be an anthropologist." I smile, nod, and will begin my third year of my Anthro degree come fall.

Oh jeez, another deep-lurker surfacing to make sure that Madame Nielsen Hayden, our favorite editrix (editoress?) pulls through in fine fettle. Stay bored; what more, bore your doctors and make your nurses laugh. Keep the bed rails up, just in case they make you laugh.

Brightest blessings on you, and Patrick and Elise for being there to help you Do The Right Thing. Extend those blessings to Jim as well, for teaching us all What To Do.

Jane @40

I noticed that too! Except, from this perspective, change 'a while'
to 'ever.' No intent to disparage our host, but my textual glimpses of
PNH have mostly been of the more surly variety. Smart, sharp, usually
laying a superhero-like smackdown against the forces of idiocy.

This post made me giggle and grin, which nearly had disasterous results here at work! Encore!

In MD here, and only realized a few days ago that we weren't a Super Tuesday state. So I sulked.

Seeing how close it is, and will be, I no longer feel quite so sulky. Now I just feel somewhat panicked, because I still can't quite decide between Obama and Hillary. I've been following Patrick's endorsement thread avidly, and it's helping.. but only a little.

Champloo is another that I haven't sat down and actually watched yet - if only because I simply don't sit down and watch anything much anymore. I'm an anime slacker.

I also want to give Evangelion another try. I barely remember my first attempt, save that it left me awful confused...

Kate@36 -- which two characters?

You have a point there. Bebop is the only anime I'll actually watch dubbed. Can't believe I missed this before I posted.

One of these days, I will actually sit down and watch FMA.

These days, I've been too busy with Bleach. Oh Bleach, how I love thee. How I must catch up on thee - mangas to buy, subs to read and watch..

Bebop is awesome, though I refused to watch the rest of it once Faye left. The music for Bebop, however, is the best part - I have most of the tracks from the OST, as well as plenty of other mp3s from Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts on permanent rotation.

I also have much love for Trigun, which is a spaghetti-western-sci-fi mashup that has to be seen to be believed. I don't think an anime has made me laugh so hard as Trigun.

Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away - natch. Watched subbed, never dubbed.

I saw the news a few hours ago at work through my GoogleReader feed (because my job has the highly publicized net-nanny that first blocked BoingBoing months ago for "nudity". I kept running back here to see when you would post your side of the news.

I'm excited and heartbroken - a great opportunity for you and Cory, and one I'll mostly miss out on since I do most of my blog-feeding at work (shh!).

(Any mispellings, typos, and other grammatical blunders, please forgive, mea culpa - I am sick and woozy and should not be allowed in front of a keyboard.)
