I made this pie tonight with fresh picked Cortlands. Not bad, but I felt compelled to pull it out of the bag for the last ten minutes to get it browned. And it ended up a little runny, but I imagine that's a side effect of the wet summer we had. The apples are great for eating but maybe janetl's trick is what's wanted.
I notice that a donation to the Haven Foundation is tax deductible, whereas a donation to the EMF is not. Thanks, e-bear and Making Light for solving that little financial/moral dillema for me. I had been planning to give what would be my membership dues to the EMF this past year. Now I'll just send them to Stephen King.

Anarchism certainly implies an endpoint rather than a process. I think the world is gradually evolving toward anarchism but I don't think anyone is ready for the complete lack of government. So I can't call myself an anarchist unless I'm singing along to the Sex Pistols.

I'll take anarcho-syndicalism. Talk about smaller government...
Speaking of things you wish you knew the name for, is there a word for people who are actually libertarians? Because the big L Libertarians have done a great job of attaching the definition "wingnut you would never want to let near government office" to the word.
My son asked me to restring his shoes yesterday and I told him "Well, that's a problem, because you've got no aglets."
"I didn't know what they were, so I cut them off."
"Well, now you know."
Re: #53, 59 and 60.
I completely agree with the panelists on the best time to get an agent. I sent out agent queries every year or so while I was waiting for an editor to read my manuscript. 6 to 8 weeks, form rejection, not interested. Then when I got an offer I found the one perfect agent for me in Preditors and Editors, sent him an e-mail and got a call back in 15 minutes. The sale in hand makes all the difference.
And why do you need an agent once you have a sale? You ever see a book contract? Neither had I. I'm so glad I had someone hold my hand through that process.
And Charlie in #69 gives the other reason: the next book. If he says it sounds good, I run with it.
