Very cool, but this "This also means it is the largest integer that can be represented by a signed byte" is nonsense. 127 is the biggest signed number that can be represented by a single byte because it equals 2^7-1. (Primality has nothing to do with it.)

Freezing water shooting out of Enceladus? Yuck. Send them back--you should only accept them if cheese shoots out.

Powerful story, with a powerful ending.

One obvious moral: if you have backwards-facing child seat, use the front seat. The airbag isn't going to do any damage then. (Talk about laws with unintended consequences.)

I found another "swiftboating" ad, mentioning some even more dubious connections, people Barack is in contact with on an almost daily basis.

Well, George Carlin had a little list. And sure enough, "motherfucker" doesn't appear on any of the lists.

John, that's a false equivalence.
1. The US doesn't even have TGVs on those corridors where it makes sense. Acela is nice, but it doesn't compare with 350mph. And there's nothing equivalent on the West Coast and other potential markets. LA-SF. Portland-Seattle-Vancouver.
2. There is no similar wait to get on trains. It takes 15 minute to buy a ticket and board the Japanese express (see above pointer.) Boarding trains is just a lot faster than planes--more doors. And you need a bigger bomb to do real damage, so the security doesn't need to be as tight.

Oh yeah, the Warren missile is a funny thing. Right there in the middle of town, this small ICBM waiting for the button. I always figured it was in honor of Mildrim Thomson's boast that he'd like to fortify the Maine border with Minuteman missiles. Or something. Anyway, it's worth the trip. And it's only a few miles further to Mt Moosilauke Ravine Lodge, which is likely still open for meals on the weekends, and has a whole bunch of great day hikes from its front yard.
