Also, does anyone else notice the sick irony that his name was "Josh", as in, a joke?
josh
v : be silly or tease one another; "After we relaxed, we just
kidded around"
How do we defend ourselves? The same way we always did: If it's too good to be true, it probably is.
"Josh"--model handsome, straight, and perfect--appeared out of the blue and right into Megan's lap. Megan's heavyset, unhappy, lonely lap. When does a perfect man appear out of nowhere to recue you? Answer: Never. Girls need to learn that early on.
Plus, "Josh" had internet, but no phone (according to the article)?
As a parent, I would have said, "Megan, I know you want to make friends, but Josh doesn't seem for real. He won't meet you though he lives in our community, he has no phone, but internet access? Let's forget about MySpace and do something else that you enjoy. How about horseback riding lessons? Or a console game? Or (insert some other fun thing)?"
Why do rich people always seem to think poor people can just hop on planes like them and fly all over the world? I'm trying to imagine someone with my income doing that. I can't even imagine myself getting health care in the first place, which I don't have. Flying on planes comes in way, way at the bottom of my list of things to do, behind feeding myself, clothing myself, and sheltering myself, and saving a little for pizza. And no matter what richie riches think, there are way more of me than there are of them.
@ #4, Please, don't defend them.
It's tiring to constantly hear variations on the theme, "Well, if you didn't do X, Y wouldn't happen to you!"
Examples:
If you don't complain at the peace rally, you won't get tazered.
If you didn't annoy Blackwater by driving so close to them, you wouldn't get shot.
If you didn't walk into that bar, you wouldn't get raped.
I read it almost daily anymore as I see people trying to defend the indefensible. Why people want to do this, I don't know. They wanted to kill people, plain and simple. They chose their jobs just so they could kill people. Let's not defend them. The civilians are not to blame.
