I am not sure what word I am looking for here, but there must be a word to describe the feeling one might get when one realizes that it doesn't matter if you are old, young, woman, or child, or anybody for that matter and your village, town, city, or house lays in an area where some people want a pipe line and access to the sea, and those people have an army.

What does the newbie learn from this experience? Why, that liberals really are as rude, hostile and angry as talk radio makes them out to be.
Maybe this isn't just about convincing us. Maybe it's also about keeping the troops clear on how bad we are.
It is pretty diabolical! I was hoping that the talking points would be refuted politely, and maybe the tactic would backfire on McCain, by changing some minds But I think in the real world your scenario is true and mine probably wishful thinking.
I would agree 100% that they don't get the internet. This looks to me like the tactics that they use for 'Letters to the Editors' section of newspapers, and complaints to the FCC. They don't realize maybe that their astroturf will be covered with a tarp and rained out but the comments to follow.
It would be interesting in a backfired sort of way if one of their posters actually read follow up comments to their cut and paste posts and had their mind changed.
Too bad about the etiquette aspect of it all. Maybe someone should start an internet finishing school. I wonder if there would be any money in that?
heresiarch,
You make a good point. Has politics always been like this, or is it a recent phenomenon? It is all very strange. I am as rational, and as irrational as the next guy, but, holy christ, I would never throw away any integrity I have to be pals with any politico.
It would be comical if it were not sad, that a guy like Bush has such a cult of personality. I would think one would need a personality to have a cult of personality. I do not understand the disconnect between fact and fiction of the Bush administration, and the supporters. Can it be as simple as they are all making money?
On Bush:
I don't recall the name of the speech writer from which Bush drew shortly after 9/11. But I do recall that speech writer promising us Henry V, but we wound up with Richard III.
To tell you the truth I often thought up until the saber rattling against Iran, that the man had to be a paid agent of Iran. There was no other explanation to me.
Heads they win; tails we lose
That seems like a good title for this post, too.
I would have liked to see a scene from Oh, Brother Where Art Thou where the crowd runs the guy out of the hall on a rail. I would like the same for all fake populists.
James D. Macdonald, I saw that story on the ap wire earlier today. Here is an excerpt and the link to the whole story. I can not believe that there are laws on the books about adults preying on children and yet there are no charges in this case. What rot.

ST. LOUIS - A woman linked to an online hoax played on a 13-year-old girl who committed suicide and has been vilified for it may be the subject of a deception — someone on the Internet is posing as her and blogging about the case.
Lori Drew's attorney said Friday that she is not the writer. The St. Charles County sheriff's department is investigating who is behind the blog postings on Blogger.com to see if a crime has been committed, a spokesman said.
The family believes the postings are an effort to damage its reputation following the death of the Megan Meier.
"Any Internet message that purports to be a member of the Drew family is being managed by an impostor and undoubtedly is being done for the purpose of further damaging the Drews' reputation," the family said in a statement.
Story
Thought some of you chaps might find this interesting; the person posting on the meganhaditcoming.blogspot.com now claims to be Lori Drew. The post was made Dec 3 2007, entitled 'I'm Lori Drew' I doubt it is the Lori Drew in question though, more than likely the work of someone who really wants to rile people up. Currently there are 1896 comments and I have not read any of them.
I can only hope Slurm will be next.
The sets do look good from the pics. I would say woe be unto anyone who screws this up, though. Between people who love comics and read the book yearly, people who do not love comics but love this comic, to the comic book guy who lives in some of us more vocally than others, well, if you screw this up you get the wrath of them all and nobody will go see the movie after opening week-end because everybody will have heard or read about how you screwed up 'The Watchmen.'
This reminds me of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H when Trapper John is introduced and he carries a jar of olives around with him. So, all you need are one of those big army coats and you can have the cocktail onions, a bottle opener, and many other drinking accouterments on your person at all times.
On occasion, you can still get rye from Jim Beam.
What I would like to know is the employee's story. If I came into to work and my boss said to drop what I was doing and instead harass a kid on line, well, I would like to say I would do the right thing. Maybe the employee was a happy participant, though. I would be interested in that story.
James D. Macdonald,
You don't think Graves was sober?
Just kidding. When I read the book I can see it, though, if that makes any sense, not as much as Herodotus or Plutarch, and it is all speculation on Graves' part.
Lisa Padol,
If you like Herodotus, you might also check out a book called the White Goddess by Robert Graves. The two books supplemented one another in my sparse education of the ancient world. Everything I ever got, I learned out of books.
Just wanted to second Eric's comment above about 'Young Men and Fire.' It is a very good book. One thing I have always liked about Maclean was his descriptions, well of almost anything, but the land especially.
I must say thanks to everybody who had an effort in this book, and the Atlanta Nights book. I might have fallen for this scam if not for you chaps, and, well, the fact that I have not actually completed a manuscript. (hard to admit amongst all you accomplished writers). I have the opposite problem from Bush, at least writing-wise in this comment by Greg London:
"Mission Accomplished," Georgie shouted while thumping his chest.
"In and out in six weeks? That was more like six seconds."
You all do a good service by exposing these scams on writers.
