#3: A fair point. Another try:
In the aftermath of a brutal zombie apocalypse, a small commune of survivalists in rural Scotland becomes beset by infighting when the wife of a former Royal Marine begins pushing him to assume leadership. Not far from the community, a trio of gorgeous bisexual women seek a way to control the shambling horrors that prowl the countryside. In the climactic moments, an inoculated son of the murdered leader opens the gates and allows the zombies to consume the murderous Marine and his wily wife.
Storm
A group of corrupt space-freighters jettison their commander out of an airlock into a strange stellar phenomenon, intending to split his prosporous business between them. Years later, they are marooned by a strange accident on a planet where the landscape is heavily psychoactive, and find strange beings, Ariel and Caliban, whose mysterious "Master" has dire plans in store.
Jigsaw meets HAL in a gripping and surreal story of revenge.
Oh, the spelling errors. My humblest apologies.
Chip@48: Your reference to "good" immigrants (indeed, Tancredo's line in general) takes me back to about a year ago, when my ex-girlfriend's parents were complaining about hispanic illegals destroying 'white culture'. I made a comment abour how nervous the phrase made me - growing up with some pretty intense anti-Semitism, I can only imagine how such talk makes other people feel. They're response?
"Oh, it's all right, Daniel. You're Jewish; that's white enough."
God save us all from well-meaning bigots.
Lizzy@97: If I remember correctly (it's been a while, and my Hebrew isn't the best), that entire segment of Genesis uses the word "Elohim" to denote God, a word that functions in the plural. What are we to make of God the Father in light of this?
In the spirit of fairness, a lifetime of inconstant Jewish education leaves me unable to argue the fine points of the New Testament aspect-based God, so forgive me if I'm asking a foolish question.
Roz @ #34: Another Young Avengers fan here, really amazed at how they manage to stand out in a world already awash in snarky heroes of one kind or another.
It feels appropriate. Freedom, like a well-made gyro, is delicious, if fattening, and it's good to have a symbol reminding us of that.
And if it looks Freudian, well, I suppose the ability to display an enormous phallus in public is just the kind of freedom this administration wishes to protect. All this military buildup has to have some meaning.
Some say New York will end in fire,
Some say with ice.
From what I know of this new Snapple
I feared it would doom the Big Apple
But if that truly were its aim
Then, seeing streets o'erflow with slush
I'd then say, if this were a game,
"The ice is mush;
A point for flame."
Alternately,
Whose pop this is I think I know
It's melting on the city, though.
They can't blame me for stopping here
to watch their promo's crimson flow.
A breeze battered the corn in the moonlight. It was a little late for crime in a sleepy Kansas town, but it was my first case in weeks and the bank was on my ass about the mortgage.
My client waved me over to a smoking hole a few rows into the field. I knew John in passing, but we'd never been close. Must've been his truck I'd seen parked along the road. A woman stood next to him holding a baby swaddled in blue. I recognized his wife, Martha, but the kid didn't look familiar. He was cute, if you like that sort of thing.
"Hey there," John said, holding out his hand. "Thanks for coming out here."
"What's wrong, John?" I pulled out a cigarette and lit it up. The smoke drifted upward to merge with the column pouring out of the crater.
"We were driving home when we saw the crash," he said, pointing to the hole. "When we came over to see what happened, we found this little tyke."
The kid coughed. A sudden breeze knocked the cigarette out of my hand. I watched it fall onto the dirt and smolder. I looked at the kid. Something about it didn't sit right with me. I can smell trouble a mile away, and this kid could market his own cologne.

Soft-boiled, at best, but I couldn't refuse the challenge.
