There's no point wasting any more time around here. I can't even IMAGINE being able to afford to hire one of these investigators. Time to head home, even if there's nothing there but debt and disease. Wait...

I think the Pepsi logo looks more like an Obama O. Trademark-infringingly close, actually.

SkyScanner is great.

Also, in Europe at least, it's well worth signing up to the mailing lists of all the budget airlines that use your local airport, because they often have very good but short-lived sales.

Unlurking to post a really disgusting story from California, where a family are suppressing their daughter's vote. I bet she was intending to vote No on 8.

About 10 years ago, my best friend and I were mountain biking in
Cumbria when we saw a red squirrel in a tree. It was the first time
either of us had ever seen a wild red squirrel. We told our families
and friends (in York, Devon and Brighton respectively) and nobody ever
believed us, because 'there are no red squirrels in England any more'.

Here in Central Europe, the reds still seem to be fairly common, as
there are decent-sized chunks of state-owned forest where they like to
live.

In the absence of power tools, I've found the best way to get the coconut open is to drain it with a screwdriver and then throw it hard on a concrete floor.

HP@18: Do you have a juicer, or can you beg/borrow/steal one? If so, you can use it to extract the juice from the ginger root. That juice will freeze nicely in ice-cube trays - you can dilute it pre-freezing depending on how strong you like your gingery drinks.

Beware of mixing mead and hot milk. It sounds like it's going to be really nice, but it can produce the most appalling curdled mess imaginable.

Any etiquette, party-planning or cookery book that describes "high tea" as an elegant afternoon meal with tea, cakes and small sandwiches.

Also, the pumpkin pie recipe in The Joy of Cooking doesn't work. The filling never, ever sets.
