Lee @149 PZ Myers (Pharyngula) attended a lecture by these two on this work & made notes. Some explication in the comments, along with usual anti- & pro- evolution rants.

How can they bear it? Even without straight anti/pro religion blood-spattered slash/hacking, finding interesting or informative among noise/chaff is getting harder. Less likely to visit – a shame.

Too fast with the clicky-bit again!

Also crossing available body parts for Mez's friend. Hope he will be up & improving lickety-split. Keep yourself well as well – there's a lot on your plate. One small bite at a time.

So good to hear it's not as bad as first thought. Good thoughts go out for Soren & Velma.

All Good Wishes to siriosa's friend, too. Seen these turn out both well & ill, so a fearful/hopeful time.

A different kind of Sad: BBC Obituary
I mentioned Breaker Morant trial in Anaconda thread, this time it's the film. Callan seems to have branded itself into a generation, too. Saw him only a couple of weeks ago, doing good job in a Britcrime drama: The Bill?? (? cos seldom watch it.)

SylvieG: Sympathies. After > decade, it's still a painful mix of loss & joy remembering departed companions.

@934 Sir Patrick Moore (UK), or indeed Patrick Moore (Canada), could both be quite, er, … interesting Dr Who authors.

@937 Alan Moore – Wow! That'd be a whole new dimension of "interesting".

Actually, to fit IoDrP 842/843 should be posted thrice – possibly four times.

Jacque @825, Bruce @833 … even shortish sentences may convey Too Much Information. Wishing I could un-read one @825.

Erik @832, it worried me too. Hoping TNH is happy-busy, not sorry-busy.

Bruce @835, Imaginarium opened end of October in Australia. Got publicity from Heath Ledger connexion. Some say not one of Gilliam's best. Mediocre Gilliam better than many others' best!

Bruce @ 97, like this? Not good at Italian geography, don't know where it is.

Tehanu @96, can you remember where nightclub was? Assuming USA, place with access from 'desert' or not? Or were you already in LA? (Was Burning Man around at that time?)

Erik @163, Xopher @164, *ahem* Not quite, M'lud.

Bertha Benz (now there's a warship-worthy name) was an important investor in Karl's company, pioneer motorist & had several children with him. None called Mercédès.

'Mercedes' was the daughter of an extraordinary agent/partner/customer/collaborator of Benz's, Emil Jellinek. The whole Benz epic & Benz/Jellinek saga is a long, twisted, up & down story.

*sigh* That's "evenutally [sic]" and "Miliatry [sic] Cross"

Follow up to mine @82. Gary McKay's interview page
Gary McKay commanded a rifle platoon that patrolled the jungles and grasslands of Vietnam in silence for days on end. He was wounded in the fighting and evenutally awarded the Miliatry Cross for valour.
Gary went on to serve in the army for 30 years.
His autobiography In Good Company was published back in the 1980s, but it's still in print. His most recent book, written with co-author Elizabeth Stewart, is about the Australian surgical team that treated Vietnamese civilians as the war raged around them. It's called With Healing Hands
Gary McKay interview MP3 (about 50 min).

In case our honoured hostess isn't already inundated with this story:

No laughing matter: Father with rare condition collapses if he chuckles too hard
About Mike Hallowell, paranormal expert from South Tyneside.
In the comments, a woman from Florida says she has the effect too.

Teach me "just a quick look before bed".

Andrew M @119, Joel P @120, First appearance of Ford was first episode of first radio series – 1978 (see h2g2). Perhaps vehicle was more known 31 years ago.

Crawling off to drop now.

For the Fellow-Bewildered (@523, @525) Jonathan Gash (pen name of John Grant) – another doctor-author – wrote "Lovejoy" series of 20+ books, inter alia, starting with The Judas Pair (1977). None have Lovejoy in title.

Wonder if any are set in Edinburgh?

Terry @79 – Flash-fantasy image: folded stack of little laminated cut-down enlargements of relevant portions of birth records of [great-*]grand-(mothers/fathers), to be flipped open in long string in lieu of green card.  Getting birth, death, or marriage records may be problematic.

Quick recommendation, Friday, 6th November ABC Local Radio Conversations program.  Talk with ?Alan? ?Mckay?, not on site yet.  Vietnam War veteran turned author, historian.  Much is experience of some 'contacts', but there's other good.  Some what happened after.  Others might find Australian viewpoint new.

Gasp!  Shocking story about shootings at Fort Hood just in News.  My sympathy to all involved.  Bad in so many ways.  Gunna cause all kinds of repercussions …

kid bitzer @128; Xopher @106, 127; fidelio @109, It sounded like cod-history, pun'n'all, but
      a) forgot to add that question;
      b) didn't trust my searching.
Excuse: At eyeball-scorching, dropping-off-keyboard-asleep stage after
      a) exhausting evening;
      b) waiting after calling cops ~3:30AM when awoken by unusual noises.

"one thing … which the Australians understood … was to refuse the right to discipline to the British" – Terry Karney @130
Boer War experience (Breaker Morant, &c)?  Remember disputes.  Too groggy today to find.  Sleep so tempting, bills to pay …

Xopher @106, Wow. I wonder if this is what you're remembering? One of a whole series of raiding voyages I never heard of – South Pacific Expeditionary Raid took 'CSS Alabama' right across our top coast. Who'da thunk it?

Somehow mixed with mutiny on the 'Bounty'?
