It’s a shame that the New York Times has
such limited resources
that it can’t afford to hire reporters or
fact-checkers who know
anything about trade book publishing
They wouldn't have needed to spend a penny to check this fact.
The
New York Times Company has its own book publishing arm, so all
they
needed to do was talk to the person in charge of their book
operations,
located on the premises of the newspapers headquarters.
