Tried the donation link twice and it did not work.
Just acquired an iPhone and I don't know if I could really afford it. But being able to listen to WFMU despite firewalls is priceless.
BTW, I would also recommend Korean fried chicken as a worthy fusion. There's only one or two places that serve said birds in the wider DC area (aka Annandale VA) but I was glad I drove over the Potomac for it.
Just because something is canonical does not automatically make it a good thing. I, for one, will not submit to the Cheez Whiz overlords....
@54 Actually, Kathryn, when you talked about jazz being "improvised syncopated classical" that reminds me of Wynton Marsalis. Unfortunately, neutering your genre to fit your expectations doesn't always work out very well IMHO.
By the by, has the NYT nixed their SF column Across the Universe? I have been keeping an eye out and I haven't seen it for a while....
Last night, my dad told me about a Susan Boyle recording of Cry Me A River with fair amount of awe. And this is coming from a huge fan of Julie London and June Christy. I haven't had a chance to listen yet but I am amazed that anyone can do that song better than Ms. London did.
Interestingly enough, both Scalzi and Bacon are Democrats.
I am a fan and longtime supporter of the mighty listener-supported WFMU in Jersey City, NJ. It supplies me with the weird and obscure music I need to make it through the day. Disclaimer: I have played an hour of music as part of their Listener Hour show (on Saturday mornings).
Wow, the former president's playing is pretty impressive. As for the rhythm section, unfortunately we must not forget Mike Huckabee on electric bass.
Anybody who covers the Rezillos ("My Baby Does Good Sculptures") is jake with me.
@ 12:
Yes, there a way to browse eMusic without becoming One of Us.
1. Click on the LOG IN link at the top right hand of the entry screen.
2. Select the Browse option in the top left-hand corner of the Login screen instead of entering a username and password.
3. Search away to your heart's content.

I'm also happy with emusic since they also have a pretty good selection of indie rock, dub reggae, experimental music, and dance music. A browser's paradise, really.
Good performance. However, I sold my Yes albums at the age of 14 or so and I have never ever looked back. Prog rock makes me break out in hives.
I will take advantage of this open thread to flack my new blog just one (1) time. It's about fringe music and SF/F and it's located here.
Sample topics: The Armageddon Rag, NZ noise musician Antony Milton, Moorcock's album New Worlds Fair, etc.
"Curtis also told police he thought he may have been drugged because some of the details of the night were hazy, according to police."
Those wacky Republicans, always running with the wrong crowd as soon as you turn your back. Next thing you know he'll be hanging out with defense contractors....
Best use of cello in popular music: Nirvana's version of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" aka "In The Pines."
