Singing, and travelling to Europe, and houses of faith

I was in Rome with my husband. It was our first time there together, although we had both been separately as children with our families. But I had spent more time there, so I got to be tour guide, showing off my favourite places in my favourite city.

We were in St Peter's basilica, looking up at the dome, when a tour group casually standing around nearby, on some pre-arranged signal unnoticed by me, burst into song. I can't even remember what they were singing, but it was beautiful, in that beautiful place.

TexAnne #62: Once I got the hang of the garter rib, the Tangled yoke cardigan was a fun knit, especially the cabled yoke part. It took a while to knit though, with all the rib and the slightly finer gauge than for other garments I have knitted in the past. The absolute best part though was no seams to sew at the end, just a bit of underarm grafting. Even the button bands were relatively easy since they are just picked up along a straight edge.

I just finished making this cardigan. Even sewed on the buttons.

I've been knitting for a few years and have developed a reasonable set of skills. I have the confidence to tackle most projects, know how to solve problems or where to go to find an answer. But now I've bought a sewing machine and I'm right back at the bottom of the learning curve.

Boom de yada, boom de yada! I listened to that about 50 times at work yesterday, without the excuse of a small child, and my brain continued to play it on high rotation all evening. It's almost the perfect earworm.

Regarding the double shelving solutions for books, when we ran out of room on our bookshelves, we started putting a second row of books behind the first. To avoid the problem of the ones at the back being forgotten about, we'd put books 2 and 3 of a trilogy for example at the back, and book 1 at the front.

(We have a combination library/dining room, with just enough room for a table and chairs and then bookshelves lining the walls. A meal at our house generally leads to a book loan.)

Also I offer my personal mantra for decluttering or cleaning, upon the completion of a small part of a seemingly overwhelming task: It's better than it was. Very helpful if you're the sort to be discouraged by the work remaining rather than satisfied by the work done.
