Fine review. Yardley only once strays into the Forest of Wild Hyperbole: "Bill Clinton, who corrupted the presidency almost beyond imagination ..."

Yardley's written a book on Fred Exley. Surely, he can't be that unimaginative?

I'm also getting tired of the "Karl Rove wants to run against Dean" remarks. Why of course he'd say that, and of course Republicans repeat it. Why wouldn't they? But as a criticism of Howard Dean (or any other candidate), it ranks right up there with "The boogy-man'll get you if you don't watch out."

well, he certainly wouldn't have a 52% approval rating.

Only 52%? Shouldn't a President who, according to his party has revitalized the economy, avenged the WTC deaths, freed the Iraqis, and kept us safe from further attacks, have a higher approval rating than that? I don't regard 52% as anything to brag about, really.

"The Capitains of Business" would rock as a band name.

So far, I've supported Dean, but I'd still work for Clark in a heartbeat if he got the nod. I'm still holding out for a Dean/Clark (or Clark/Dean) ticket. I've heard Clark eviscerate the Iraq adventure and he's truly impressive to hear on that subject. I wish I thought his grasp of domestic affairs was as good. Clark obviously regards himself as a "gentleman-soldier" sort and it's possible that what Truman said of Eisenhower, "Poor Ike97it won92t be a bit like the Army. He92ll find it very frustrating" could be said of Clark, too. But it's ludicrous to fear Clark because he's a military man. I mean, GWB is a draft-dodging frat-boy and look what he's done.

My first impression of Bush's Baghdad trip was similar to Patrick's--a photo op, obviously, but a nice gesture all the same. Then the next day when I was shopping at a small, local clothing store, I got an earful from the owner--who should be squarely in the Bush demographic (a southern, (SC) older, white businessman)--about that "cynical SOB" using the troops.

That's purely anecdotal evidence, of course, and statistically worthless. But it surprised me and it suggests that efforts like these may cut both ways, even among Bush's expected base.

I'm delighted to see Panjabi MC on the list. I'm still dying to hear the rest of Boy In Da Corner. Too bad that's not on there.
And The Mighty Zizka's son is one of The Decembrists? Wow. The things you learn on the Interweb.
