I think a major factor is that our our leaders haven’t stood up and called it for what it is, naming names and giving specifics, in plain and straightforward English.
I'd disagree with it being gradual. I remember watching the Iran-Contra hearing. Not, this was about setting up a shadow executive branch for the explicit purpose of bypassing the lawful government of the United States. It was clear that all involved had committed high treason. The moment Oliver North got declared a hero, it was clear the game was over. Perception, theatrics, and the Big Lie won the day. We are all still living in Ollie North's world.
Coming home listening to NPR, they were interviewing David Brooks discuss last night's walloping. Not only did Brooks go with the standard line that last night proved that people demand more sensible centrists (there is no Bernie Sanders here - this is not the Bernie Sanders you are looking for), but Brooks knew, in his wisdom, what had the sensible centrists so upset. Last night, it seems, was all about (wait for it) the long-term structural issues surrounding entitlement reform. Needless to say, the interviewer failed to point out that this had to be one of the stupidest things said all day by anyone.
I so wish I could be consistently, insanely incorrect and keep my job. Life would be so much easier.
Working Families is relevant in MA as well. We only call a party a party once they get 3% on a statewide election. They are trying to get 3% on the state Auditor race (a democrat running otherwise unopposed).
Theresa is ALWAYS the thing. Remember that, and you will do fine at VP.
