Wow, the first thing by Dick I ever picked up, and the last for about 30 years. Really terrible, or maybe it was the fact that I was like 12 and totally didn't get it.

It is terrible. You were a very canny young man.

The goddamned democrats have been playing this dumbass game of trying to emulate republicans in hopes of fooling right-wingers. In avoiding their core values, they appear less sincere to moderates and create more disenfranchised voters. Now they're scratching their heads and wondering what the fuck happened. Go back and don't fight. Tell them you're not a liberal. Extend the patriot act. Continue to give the president all the fucking power he needs to fight the war on terror. Fuck labor. All of these concessions will pay of some day, when we're all bleeding.

to Cory: Honestly, you were surprised by this ruling?

Teresa, you're a scholar--Making Light is listed, maintained by "Anon." So what are you hiding from?

Wanted to comment on this awhile back, but I've been busy. This is a great entry. I love how you pull in all these key related elements to summarize your observations. That's why you're a great editor, Patrick, and why I love the Starlight series.

Twilight zone is actually some very toned down social commentary. The history of Rod Serling is fascinating. The guy was incredible. Playhouse 90 was an earlier project, a live drama, in which the social commentary was more scathing of real problems. Soon the network came down hard and began censoring the show due to pressure from advertisers (sound familiar?). Serling had to find creative ways to separate the characters and scenarios in the show from real people and organizations. His battles with the network left him bitter over the issue. Twilight Zone is pretty benign compared with Playhouse 90, but Serling made it work wonderfully.

Well put, Donald Johnson. My thoughts pretty closely.

Acrobat Reader is free software, easily obtainable and practically ubiquitous. If you are implying that a jpeg is a better format, that's not the case. It has the unfortunate inconvenience of not automatically printing to a page width from a web browser. My gripe is over the poor scan, which is unreadible in many parts of the document.

Patrick, so with the system change, you've put iTunes for Windows back on? It runs okay otherwise?

David, key point! Patrick, I think your quote is taken out of context. That detail was provided to contrast Stewart's style, which is hardly full of the same angst as Miller or Maher. Centrist, yes, but not pissed off.

I would not put De Genova on the left side of the political fence [if there is one], more like authoritarian, neo-facist.
