Speaking of the history of an Atkins-like diet, my father-in-law was telling me that Lewis & Clark noticed that on their all game meat diet, they had to eat tremendous quantities to stay healthy, and many members of the expedition lost weight.

I've been wondering if there are any cultures that predominantly eat meats to the point where they rarely eat anything else. Eskimo, maybe? Early native americans--what was in their diet other than game meat?

I already came across a second-order effect of this. A post on slashdot discussed how a researcher used the tool to look for instances of his research and found several books where his research was discussed without attribution, so his lawyer is writing letters.

So, lawsuits. I mean, I assumed it would be the subject of lawsuits, but not a tool for them...

Damn, I wish I would have read this before I installed it on my work machine. I totally locked up on restart, and safe mode didn't even save me. What I did was "restart with last known working settings" (paraphrased) and that got me working again. I thought it was just me. Glad to know it was just apple living up to their reputation for writing windows apps.
