How about onset? I've read (and found true in my experience) that
colds come on more gradually, whereas flu comes on like being hit
with an 18 wheeler. The one time I had it I thought I had a bit of
a sore throat around 4PM; by 7PM I was huddled under many blankets
having chills and sweating at the same time.
