I respect the spirit of this post with the 'holy fool' aspect dovetailing with 'righteous rage.'

however:

I am expecting posts shortly about coincidences involving shoes from MakingLight readers much like the abysmal kennedy conspiracy thread turned into trivialities and mind-games worthy of the camp commandant in 'It's a Beautiful Life' trying to solve some puzzle in the abstract far removed from the human realities of the situation.

kennedy might have been 'saner' than some of the other cold warriers. for example those who wanted to nuke cuba during the missile crisis.

he planned to withdraw from vietnam incrementally beginning in dec.1963.

this wouldn't be acceptable to those who (although they had already gotten plenty) saw a goldmine at the end of the napalm rainbow.

vietnam.

hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars to be made from napalm, agent orange, white phospherous, torture equipment, artillery shells, cluster bombs, bullets, backpacks, bandages, boots, you name it

you think those guys are going to allow one 'prick' like kennedy to stand in their way

pg.110 'Vietnam: the 10,000 Day War'
Dec.3, 1963 kennedy's plan to begin withdrawing forces from vietnam.

didn't happen.

funny to be sarcastic/ironic/facetious, etc...

but your post totally misses the mark.

maybe we can call it a 'magic' post and pretend it kills two birds with one stone.

this is the sort of thing i'd expect to see at 'daily kos' with bright, shiny officers of normalcy enforcing the mantra of 'positive thought.'

not that i know any of you and not that i am a regular poster (possibly 3 under a totally different name than this) and not that i want to bring anybody down (love this blog) but...

my new years eve?
total emotional meltdown with partner on way to party following dinner where we always go to eat on new years eve.
end of relationship.
a dozen years up in smoke.
brushfire.
small spark escalates within seconds to full-blown engulfment of mountain.
this has happened too many times.
we're both tired of it.
oh i'm to blame too. no doubt.
and the kicker?
not only is this a romantic relationship, it's also a highly productive creative partnership i.e. the partner's thoughts complete mine in ways not possible otherwise.

what silly mortals we be.

Can something be haunting, ridiculous, pathetic, just, unjust, cruel, foolish, etc.... all at the same time?

re: the earlier post quoting a british politician:

yes, if you're digging a hole and realize it, the best thing is to stop digging.

unless of course it's 'saddam's spider hole' in which case, surely, the WMDs are down there just a little bit deeper.

of course, one has to fight their way through the salt vampires first.

Not to be flip, considering the subject matter, but I notice mention of a Col. Brian D. Jones.
And the vanity/scam article just above refers to 'author consultant' Brien Jones.

I suspect that when I turn the radio on this morning I will hear a song by........
