As long as we're talking about the rule of law and involving the Founders, here's a personal favorite of mine, from Paine:But where, say some, is the king of America? I'll tell you Friend, he reigns above, and doth not make havoc of mankind like the Royal of Britain. Yet that we may not appear to be defective even in earthly honors, let a day be solemnly set apart for proclaiming the charter; let it be brought forth placed on the divine law, the word of God; let a crown be placed thereon, by which the world may know, that so far as we approve of monarchy, that in America the law is king.
Related to that, the phrase "has declined to participate" strikes me as singularly preposterous. Just you try answering the knock on your door with "No, Officer Friendly, you can't come in with that warrant - you see, I decline to participate in this investigation!" and see how far you get.
My limericks are little but facile
Creating them is dreadful hassle
Their one saving grace
Keeps a smile on my face
As I hear them all in the voice of Carl Kassel
Just sent emails supporting Kucinich's plan to all three of my congresscritters. I like to finish with a nice chorus of "impeach, impeach, impeach!" As they say over at Shakesville - break out your teaspoons.

I did the same thing, actually. Shows the frantic eagerness in the process.
Re: And Islam, while it includes a lot of rural primitivism, also includes some very different traditions. Consider, for example, Indonesia, and wonder how, once the idea of critical analysis takes off, how people might start saying, "But we don't live in a desert."

I remain hopeful, but effecting a change in the popularly practiced version of the religion is a big task. The Turkish government's idea of sending out proselytes is encouraging, but could backfire.
