"Get more religious liberals to actually step forward, not to denounce idiot radio hosts, but to promote an affirmative vision of liberalism founded in religion."
This is what I meant by hectoring AAR, not just registering complaints about Mr. Maron (a long-time stand-up if I'm not mistaken). Push the hosts and management to get religious liberals on the air specifically to counteract the constant drumbeats of the Falwells and Bauers and Dobsons. Present it as an opportunity for AAR to capture a "market" not just to avoid offending people by not mentioning religion anymore.
Might it not be better for those Christians of a progressive nature to hector the people at Air America for representation rather than fume here? The main problem seems to be the fact that everyone knows who Jerry Falwell is and many, many fewer know who Martin Marty is.
AAR should be fertile ground for getting a different type of Christian speaking to a wider audience about our society.
"The hard right aren’t interested in apologies or corrections. If this were really about promoting civility of discourse, they’d have plenty to attack on their own side without hunting down people on ours. They want us to shut up, and that’s pretty much all that will satisfy them."
This bears repeating, because the "reasonable" right in the guise of folks like Tacitus are just as dangerous and deceitful as any LGF'er. They smile, and talk a good game about civility and "ideas", but when it comes right down to it they'd be happy to have your throat slit.
Mary Kay: It's made in Scotland of all places, so I'd imagine it doesn't qualify as Plymouth but it shares some of the "wetness" qualities imo. Also I'm a sucker for good package design and I love the bottle it comes in-- very medicinal.
I've been very lucky to see Doc a few times at the Old Town School here in Chicago which is very small, and very well designed for music, and he's really a marvelous performer; catch him while you can!
Doc Watson's still alive, no? And yes, a sweet guy for sure although I wish he'd leave his grandson at home when he plays out.
Tanqueray is a go-to standard, but try Hendricks sometime... an excellent alternative.
Shaken, Sherman, mouse, Chaucer, Coltrane, bagel, electric.
Dead over QMS.
Funkadelic or Parliament?
Doc Boggs or Doc Watson?
"Mayor Daley is not daring, but he is pragmatic."
I'd say bulldozing Meigs Field in the middle of the night was fairly daring, but of course he's never had anyone make a real electoral challenge in his entire tenure, so he really doesn't have much to worry about.
Daley's been good to the gay community from the start, so I'm not totally shocked by his position here. I suppose he'll get some flack from the bungalow belt, but contrasting gay marriage with hetero divorce was a pretty smart way to counter it.
You ought to get those craggy uplands looked at.
Not downtown I'm afraid. Near(ish) northwest side: 2314 W. Roscoe. Roscoe is three blocks north of Belmont Ave, around 3300 N. Nice neighborhood, relatively easy parking, or near CTA bus lines.

Search "hot doug's" at this site for more info on times and directions.
Figure on waiting at least a half hour for the duck fries unless you are in line before they open; also he tends to run out of them before 3pm.
Crinkle-cut fries? Not at any of my favorite spots, but it's not the heresy that ketchup on the dog would be.
While it may be some sort of Wisconsin variant I do like the cheese fries at Muskie's quite a bit (the cheddar-guacamole fries are even more more).
My current favorite spot for cased meats is Hot Doug's on Roscoe near Western. On Saturdays he does fries in duck fat which are insanely good, and well worth the extra waiting time. Also, you've got to love a place with a smoked Thuringer called the Len O'Connor, and a tofu/meatless dog called the Howard Devoto.
