Sorry -- not trying to aid the scammers. I was curious whether it was "how do you have so much information on me?"-weird or just "man, you're really fishing"-weird. I suppose it's all the same weirdness in the end.

Was [address] your current (or a former) address?

I do have experience with upgrading Movable Type (I've taken my own sites from 2 to 3 to 4) and I'd be happy to help. I'd think your best bet would be to at least try the upgrade to MT4 first and see if it helps the performance issues (it did for me), because if so, great, and if not, at least not much time would be wasted and then you can move on to looking at reimplementing the whole kettle of fish in WordPress or such. And it's pretty easy to test the upgrade on a sandbox version of the site.

Anyway, I'm contactable via the email on this comment. Cheers.

An apropos twitter from John Gruber.

And speaking of Leinenkugel, Leine's Red is, here in Chicago, the sort of cheapest-good beer: what you might bring to a cookout if you want to be fancier than MGD, but don't actually want to spring for a really *good* beer.

I live just down the street from a place with 17 Belgian beers on tap, plus another 50 odd in bottles, so I have to be reminded sometimes that everyone in the country isn't so lucky. Which is a shame -- those Belgians really know their way around some grains and hops.

David Dyer-Bennet @ 140 I now think that, maybe, there's a reservoir of formality hiding down in the South or something

In fact, our country's Strategic Courtesy Reserves are kept just outside of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

My favorite of this type of wide-open game is the totally player-made 1000 Blank White Cards. (I usually actually play with a pack of a couple hundred index cards). It's been *totally* different every time I've played -- from hard-core rule-tweaking to just fun arty messing around.

I most recently ran into the True Names problem at Facebook, who try to automatedly enforce RealNameness by forbidding some set of dictionary words. My name (which is, admittedly, not my birthname, but which I have used personally and professionally, in person and online, for 15 years now) is not "legitimate", their system says. Annoying (and not to jinx him) my brother Disco Gerdes was able to register his name just fine.

Recommendation noted, and I had a re-discovered Borders gift card burning a hole in my pocket so I picked it up this weekend and read it.

Awesome-ville. I love the way that events of such magnitude are followed along from "ground level" (as it were). And I couldn't stop recommending it to people even as I was in the middle of it.

> people need to let Wikipedia know that It's All True and More Besides.

Actually, it kinda ruffles Wikipedian feathers to have a bunch of people show up just to comment on a single article. Just FYI.

The Washington Post actively doesn't help this weekend and Nick Mamatas rips it for us.
