Happy birthday Anne. Thank you for writing to us. I'm just sorry we can't write back.
Jon managed to blurt out 'Teresa's had a heart attack' when we'd already left the house, which caused some consternation on my part. I hope this is a singleton.
Good healing and recovery from the shock to both of you
Oh no.
Robert was one of those people on the edges of my world, I never would have known him if Teresa hadn't introduced us.
Thank you Teresa for bringing him into my life, however briefly.
Yes, it has been forever. Do you have a Ground equivalent in Brooklyn?
Alter at #25, I believe there's still a Barton's store in the 30s. The set of streets, that is, not the decade.
Since I have no doubt that it is my cookbook that is horrifying unto you, I should mention that I just bought Beard on Bread too. Sorry!
Joel? You make the world better through sheer geekiness. Just saying'.
I am so sad to hear he's gone. I used to role-play in a Wheel of Time MUD when I was in college. His was a universe anyone could play in, because it was so large and diverse.
I know he was struggling to finish his work, and had hoped to stay on just a little longer and see the culmination of his dream.
My deep condolences to his family and those who loved him. I only knew him in print, but he has still made an impact on me.
Jon told me on the phone nearly three hours ago and all I could say was "What?" and when he repeated himself, I said, "no, I heard you. What?"
I can't believe he's gone. He was just waving to me across the Luncaon lobby, not two weeks ago, looking comfortable and happy and playing the guitar.
I love mashups. I've been an advocate for ages of seeing what happens when you throw more than one song into the blender.
I highly recommend the title track on Boulevard of Broken Songs.
As a related aside, it is possible to produce live mash-ups. The other day, I was in the car with Jon and as we were driving, I noticed, by flipping around in the usual way, that all three of the major rock stations were playing songs with nearly the same backbeat, so I did a mashup the old fashioned way, by scanning between the stations at points which were change-appropriate.
The best mash-up I achieved was the concurrence of the lines "Put another dime in the jukebox baby" and "jukebox hero". For those of you who are curious, the third song was KT Tunstall's Big Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, which provided appropriate woo-hoo noises.
This amused Jon to no end.
The thought has been in my head all day that Mike was the poet laureate of science fiction, and so I come to lay my wreath.
He will be much missed.
_Republic Dogs_, wow does that bring back memories.

Remarkably, no one seems to have hit on these two:
Trying to foist off nasty older relations on the devil can be good fun, but watch that it doesn't backfire on you.
If a talking animal starts to bait you about your true love, under no circumstances do it any harm, unless you fancy running from the law and spending your life alone. Or tending a garden.
Further caveats:
If you meet the devil or a knight on the road, make sure you have a small child with you to do the talking.
If someone offers you the better sword, run, don't stay and fight. After all, you've already slept with the fair lady, and she's married.
If your daughter's true love dies and she takes to her bed, arrange to have them both buried in your garden. If you like roses and briars.
Do not date nearsighted men who like guns.
Joe Bethencourt wrote a wonderful primer on this sort of thing that's recorded on his album Naked Banjos. The song is called Silver Dagger and it's an object lesson in why you should just run off with your sweetie.
Two instances of what happens when you combine ballads.
Condensed ballads. (See the index or do a search for Child Ballads on the page.)
Teresa: I don't think I added anything except maybe a dash of fresh-ground black pepper. The kiwi sour, wine and prepared garlic did the rest.
Xopher: Have you been tested for sensitivity to maltitol? I have a spanking-new intestinal ulcer from its near cousin sorbitol. Be careful how much you injest and how often.
In the same vein, I improvised kiwi garlic chicken last night.
Peel four kiwis that are ripe to the point of sour and mash them with about a tablespoon of prepared crushed garlic. Add about 1/3 cup of Zinfandel. Stir. Pour sauce into pan. Skin chicken breasts, lay them in sauce, then with a spoon pull sauce from the bottom of the pan until breasts are covered. Cook for 90 minutes at 450. Makes nicely browned and still very tender chicken with a spicy-kiwi kick.
Our household has had both varieties of 'flu. Head and stomach. I'm very glad that there isn't one for the lower third of the body, otherwise we might be obliged to have the whole set.
Feel better soon. And Patrick too.
Maybe we can each give up our horrific colds for lent?
It's the season for both.
Feel better and rested.
The irony of the situation is staggering.
That being said, you now have a unique way to sign this edition of the book; by making a game of it. Simply tell new readers that they must find the errors in the copy. That should provide fun and games for amateur proofreaders for years to come.
