Excellent! I love happy endings ... they're so rare these days.

Why is it news that Howard Dean is a Democrat and that he will do whatever he can to support the eventual nominee of his party? He never wavered from that viewpoint.

Nor am I surprised in the least that he strongly urges his supporters to do what it takes to defeat Dubya and his cabal. Sure, a few Deaniacs will momentarily talk the Nader talk, but they'll soon come to their senses.

Like many disappointed Dean supporters, I really do believe that Howard would both be a superior candidate to Kerry and also facilitate a transformation of the party to an institution that we can be proud of. But if I can't have Howard, I'll work to put the Democratic nominee (whoever he is) in the White House. Then I'll get back to the work of revitalizing the party in the image of its people.

Bennett's observation is interesting, particularly when you take into account that Dean seemed to be the only one who was saying much about beating Dubya until recently. If, in the end, Dean doesn't recover his magic touch, the eventual nominee -- and Democrats everywhere -- will have Howard Dean to thank for helping the candidates and the party find their backbones and their cojones.

Gee, andrew b., is that all you ask? Seems like a pretty easy mark. Just what Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and just about every other creed on the planet have been able to do.

Patrick, thanks to the title of your blog entry, I glanced through RT's website and discovered to my delight that he'll be playing here in Seattle on May 20. With a band rather than solo (I prefer the latter), but it's still a chance to see Richard.

I chuckled in particular at the description of Hyde and Regents Parks as "dark nebulae". Also, any reference to a Richard Thompson lyric is always welcome.

In one of my fits of ennui during the long buildup, I suggested that they should go to war right away, in order to get it over and done with. Then Dubya and his minions could no longer hide behind the flagwaving, leaving the complete mess they've made of all things domestic, judicial, economic, environmental, etc. plainly visible for all to see. In the light of day, perhaps, the disastrous policies and fundamentalist ideology being pursued by the Bushmen might finally make their way into the consciousness of the voters of 2004.
