An editor who’s had an extraordinary run of submission
luck one year might look differently at a rewritten book that came
back to her in a sparser year.
But are there really sparse years? I realize only a small
proportion of stuff that goes into the hopper makes it past all
those hurdles you cite, but with SO much stuff coming in, is it
really possible to go a year and not get, what was the number for
this small house, seven manuscripts that you want to publish? Wow.
I can't decide if I find that encouraging or discouraging.
