For scansion, you need a couple more lines, which I will cheerfully supply:
Mary snarled at me
Pa-rum-pa-rum-pum
I had the Kid asleep
Pa-rum-pa-rum-pum
You woke Him up, you creep
Pa-rum-pa-rum-pum
I had him fast asleep
Pa-rum-pa-rum-pum, rum-pa-pa-pum, rum-pa-pa-pum
So get out of here
Pa Rum-pa-rum-pum
You and your drum.
Today FOX has been surprisingly decent. It's as if for one day they don't have to play wingnut to keep their jobs.
A dear friend who had a major stroke had a doctor who declared the same stupid (and incorrect)thing, saying that she would not recover -- and she lived another 14 years or so. Sometimes doctors are not right bright.
Describe Sarah Palin?
George Bush in drag.
I got one at my home ISP and a couple in G-mail. Never opened them. I read the news where I want to and I ignore solicitations.
I swear my hamster has five fingers on each hand. And I swear she has opposable thumbs.
This is pretty much spot-on. Both Democratic candidates are gold. Only one will win. I'd like to see both of them on a ticket.
I remember seeing the 2004 Obama speech. I went in to work and made some people listen to his speech "because he's going to be the first black president." I just did not bargain for it to be this soon. And at a time when we need one, maybe he could be an FDR. Maybe she could, too ... but only one of them will have to try.
OK, I can't draw -- but I keep seeing a ring shape with city on the lower curve and attacking army on the upper curve -- a ring tilted into an oval -- and only a ring-shaped part of this done embossed in gold. There could be lots more army embossed without highlighting -- and more castle below the parts done in gold, though some turrets will need highlight and stand up from the ring ... .
I wasn't even going to post this, but the image kept nagging.
# 59 Bruce Cohen I think on average you're right that old age brings conservatism, and the trend may indeed continue as we extend lifespan. But average is only average; there will always be people whose attitudes change because they actually learn more over time, about themselves and the world. You know, the "young at heart".
We are part of a divided species. In general, I'd say women become more radical, not more conservative. The learning of a lifetime often highlights for them just what the facts of life are -- and in a way that makes their opinions pretty unpalatable. I seriously doubt that the results could be summarized as "young at heart". Conservative is where guys go, but old women get more and more obstreperous -- and thus the whisper of "witch!" rings through history -- when it isn't a burning screech.
That about sums it up. The writers of fiction are not Perfect Icons. Sometimes the ones we like best will say stupid stuff.
And sometimes we will like the person who writes but find their writing to be off limits for discussion, lest we mortally offend them.
:)
I came to reading him late, and I am still sorry as I can be.
We have sunk to the level of our opponents -- and maybe lower.
My country right or wrong, and right now it's wrong, wrong, wrong.
Shorter Taming of the Shrew
Kate: Make me.
Petrucchio: My pleasure!

175 Faren: I wonder if some SF optimist has written about a spreading plague of sanity -- or is that what it means to be post-human
If honesty is sanity, include the story "The Devil's Children" by Spider Robinson.
#65 Barbara -- For a moment, I read "poke my mouth with a stick"!
Hm, and what about those little pre-measured flosses that are attached to plastic picks? Run with one of those things and you could put an eye out!
Well, the good thing about never drinking cola beverages and not getting to eat sugar is that the teeth don't get holes in them.
Five years without a dentist. No cavities.
Worse, there is another document up for them to start controlling vitamins and herbs. Crap! Can't those people do a decent job at what they are supposed to be doing first? Like checking the food supply for melamine and salmonella?? Not to mention BSE, that they ignore pointedly.
