Posted on entry Why don't we get together, and call ourselves an institute. ::: May 25, 2004, 11:31 PM:
Ok, here's the deal.

We start our own University, We get a "Lord" to fund us, give us a small plot of land (what, there must be some swamp land in New Jersey, right?). We get all the folks who don't want to fight to join us--what do you think all those semi-educated clerks were doing in university anyway, second sons of nobility, bastard by-blows of higher church clergy etc. who had no skill or feel for fighting ?

There must be a lot of failed dot-com kids by now, right?

I don't want to live in the Middle Ages. And there was never a time of "middle" anything and nobody ever "lives" in an "age.".

Do YOU feel like you live in an age? Thought not.

I just wish those considered Cult Figures (at least according to some folks) were now in charge of our country.

Like the wacky Unitarian Tommy Jefferson. Or both of the Adams guys.

I am proud to be a Unitarian Univeralist. Even if I haven't figured out quite what that means. But I do know one thing. The first credo, so to speak, that we as UUs have to adhere to is the "inherent dignity of every human being".

As a former Catholic, let me tell you this is a harder trail than the Vatican credo ever set me to. The thing is, UUs don't have a get out jail free card...and I like that very much.

I have dibs on 10-15th English history...

Work like you were living in the early days of a better nation.

God, I am trying so hard these days. It is a true thing that we need to fight for our right to be free. Especially from those who are trying to take that right from us. I am valiantly trying to keep from slipping into despair. Staying mad is the way to go.

Hopefully Mike will read this here. Thank you. I have a twelve year old who has just turned to the teen "But _I'm_ going to die someday" phase. I gave this to him tonight and he got it.

More elegant than Mother could ever be.

Ooh. "Miracle of the commonplace". Thank you, Laura. I think that is going to become one of my mantras.

We spend so much of our lives trying not to get yelled at. Really. And we think we can't carve out the time to think. To reason. To go into the park and throw nuts at the squirrels.

I lost my parents young. Because of this there isn't a day that goes by that I don't tell the people that I love that I love them. They think I'm silly and they indulge me. But I know that you never know when that beer truck is going to hit you (silly story). And because I lost them so early I do like the little things. And moreso in the last few years...

Sorry to post this for the non-Tor folk, but I will post this here because panix is gone for me. This is the first time my phone has started to work and I am grabbing it now. FYI, several Tor folk walked all the way up the east side. I got Ben; we're safe. Melissa is safe home, so is Constance. Power came on here around six and I have to say I feel positively medieval. Got the kid out this AM and we shored up on dried meat, aged cheddar cheese, fresh and dried fruit. Give me some mead and I'm set. You'all be safe, OK?

I learned a thing tonight. On CNN no less: Hitting people with the bottom of shoes is an ultimate insult.

This makes perfect sense, given the overall concern of Arabic concern for cleanliness, ie right hand/left hand use: imagine you eat food with your right hand and clean 'um' stuff with your left.

So I hit you (a representation of you) with what I walk on all the time. It's not much but it's all I've got. And if I managed to walk in something before I hit the object.

Symbols mean something.

The only thing that I wish is that the guys who are running this thing has actually taken some history classes..

>Oh, and Mark? I didn't insist that you stay. I said you
>were a wuss for announcing your departure the way
>you did.

Ha.

There are many reasons I like my friend.
