When I visited Iceland at Christmas one year I was surprised to see shoes on the windowsills of many of the apartments (there aren't many houses in Reykjavik). It seems the custom of receiving gifts from the Jólasveinar (mischievious imps) was not only an important tradition during Yule but something like forty percent of the adult population believed elves were quite real. I didn't hear whether rice pudding was involved, but the elves came down from the mountains specifically to get hold of some of the Christmas food.

Vindication at last! I have been telling people about the CMG for years and most people didn't believe me. It's the reason I buy a lot of clothing in certain years and virtually none in others; I don't care if I'm unfashionable colorwise, I'm not wearing something that makes me look jaundiced.
My secret: Eddie Bauer and Land's End will continue to carry some small portion of those non-fashionable colors in their catalogs no matter what's hot. Not in their stores, in their catalogs.
I am so sorry to hear of this misfortune, but I am pleased to hear they are reprinting it. I must check to see if you autographed my copy, and which edition it is.
I'm absolute shit at mathematics. I wonder if there's any corrolation to my abysmal failure to either learn or like to knit? I've always found it difficult and non-soothing and I have to pay attention to what I'm doing or it goes all wrong. Much like, say, algebra.
