Dear Lucy,
Behold the POWER OF THE INTERNET! There are hundreds, if not thousands of us willing to follow the words of Teresa and Patrick.
Therefore, finish your revisions, or more of us will bug you.
Sincerely,
Sara E.
So, what made you decide to come clean about which chapter you wrote? I thought you were going to make us all continue to guess.
Oh my God, that's just too damn funny.
In the end, all we can do is keep standing up for the ideals and values that we believe in and not give up.
I will work toward feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, healing the sick, helping the poor move from poverty to proud self-sufficiency. I will work toward peace, to treat others with the respect I myself would like to be treated with and walk humbly with God. I will do this out of my commitment to my so-called "liberal-Godless-values" that I hold.
This is my country too, just as much as it is for the people in the "red" states that voted for Dubya and were swayed by God, Guns, Gays and Fear.
I will not be silenced, I will not back down, and by God, I will work toward reclaiming the Senate and the House in 2006 and the White House in 2008.
55+ million people voted for Kerry and that is just as much of a force to be reckoned with as those who voted for Bush.
I went to yannarthusbertrand.com and looked at the photos. They are just incredible. Beautiful. I am going to take my time and go over each country.
And Phule, jeez sometimes people stumble across things on the web, don't know where they're from, but share so that they DO find out where it's originally from. So dude, like chill.
Logistics? :blinks: Hmmm, hadn't thought of that. (Which is why I'll have to read up on it after I get through the other suggestions.)
Painting book shelves: I say go for the simple and traditional solution. Strip the paint, sand, prime, paint the color you want. There are some good non-toxic paint strippers out there, but I have no clue as to where I put their names and I didn't keep the containers for them.
The last time I was in Home Depot I checked out the Trading Spaces books on decorating and such and they seemed to have some decent tips. And they work with MDF and fiberboard on that show all the time, so they should know how to paint the stuff.
Whee! I have quite the list going now! Thank you all very much. Have gone out and gotten "The Art of War" and will start it today.
As for the rest, I have a feeling the local library and I will quickly become good friends once again. Which isn't a bad thing.
Again, thanks everyone. This helps so much.
If anyone ever needs recommendations on children's books or texts on teaching reading and writing to elementary school aged children, I'll be able to return the favor! (Or for that matter, advice on how to choose a kindergarten. That I taught for five out of the 12 years I was a teacher.)
500 comments? Wow.
Since the kind people here helped Randall with recommended reading, I was wondering if y'all could help me out and point me in the right direction.
I am currently researching some areas for my novel and need help finding basic texts and/or websites on warfare/tactics. Also some good sites or texts that would be a good introduction to physics as it relates to space travel.
Google is wonderful, but when faced with pages upon pages of things to choose from, a part of my brain goes "eep!" and faints.
I've started reading New Scientist.com, but would be happy to add more book marks and books.
Any suggestions?
Damn it, I wish I could be in Boston.
Sigh.
Errghh, I meant "how many black shirts" not "shirt".
Feh. Hate it when I miss something.
Went shopping the other day, after reading this thread and I found that I looked at everything with a new, more critical eye toward color.
At one end of the story were the "late summer/early fall" clothes which were all in the pastel range or grayed down enough to go with khaki or grayed down denim.
On the other side were more "late fall/early winter" which were VERY royal blues, vivid pinks and lime/avocado greens. With some strong red thrown in for good measure. Then there were some terra-cotta like oranges thrown into the mix.
Interestingly enough, a TON of yellow and orange shirts from the summer were sitting on the sales rack, while the more subdued colors were well picked over. Black and white were well represented, but then again, how many black shirt does one actually need?
Now, I look good in pinks and reds, especially ones in the more wine/burgandy range, but I look like crap in the ones w/o the yellowy or orangy undertones, so for me it's always a chore finding the right hues. And when I do, my husband wonders how many shades of a color exist.
It's interesting how everything old becomes new again. Now at least I know how they come up with those awful names for colors that were in fashion 10, 20, or 30 years ago.
I agree about khaki, it was NEVER supposed to be worn above the waist, unless you're in the in millitary.
I have a ton of black in the wardrobe and some khaki pants too and thus I look things this way:
Strong colors w/ the black, pastels and black with the khaki, and both better look better look damn good with blue jeans.
I really think orange and bright yellow shouldn't be worn by most people. Or those pea soup greens.
Arrrgghh! The-never-ending-move is a terrible thing. Have gone through it twice as an adult. I blocked out the ones I went through as a child.
Here's hoping for many, many, many years of living in one place!
Despite the scummy way the former landlord forced y'all to move, it sounds like you got out on the side of angels and have a better place to live. Congrats and Cheers on the new place!
As someone who lived through the rolling blackouts in CA and a Texan to boot, I really hope they eventually NAIL Ken Lay and the rest of the Enron Bastards...but I'm not holding my breath.
Ken Lay knew what was going on, he had to, because he set the corporate tone for Enron. Such attitude and arrogance was set from the top down.
In the end, nothing will happen to the "big guns" of Enron until Bush is out of office. As a corrupt and lying administration, they won't push prosecution because a trial will show the collusion between Cheney and Ken Lay when it comes to setting our nation's energy policy.
Grrrrr, I need to stop now, as I feel my blood pressure rising...
Ark II! Thanks Stefan! It was driving me nuts trying to remember the name! I was about to go surf google trying to find it, just for my peace of mind.
My sense of irony was late in developing and I never made fun of those shows until I was a little older. Then again, I have to admit I watched those live action Saturday morning shows because I thought the guys on it were cute. Which still often guides what I watch on t.v. these days...
Good God, I laughed so hard I cried.
First "Troy in Fifteen Minutes" and now this...it's been a good day to laugh.
I wonder if There Might Be Giants would list School House Rock as one of their inspirations?
Now does anyone here remember watching "Jason of Star Command" or "Electra-woman and Dyna-girl?" I loved watching those when I was a kid. And "Shazam!" and "Isis." (I cannot tell you how many fights my little sister and I had over who would get to be Isis while playing.)
And there was some other sci-fi live action show that had people traveling around in the desert in a futuristic RV bring back knowledge to people. There were three or four main characters. Darn it, I can't for the life of me remember the name of that show.
My husband just rented from Netflix the DVD's of the original Transformers. Now that was a blast from the past. Silly stuff, but he had fond memories of it.
And someone mentioned beheading their Barbies? My best friend and I played "Barbarian Barbie" thanks to some scraps of fur my grandfather gave me. (He was a furrier.) With string we tied the fur on to Barbie and Ken a la caveman style and built huts out of twigs and leaves for them. And Barbie got to "hunt" stuffed animals with a twig spear.
And my mother was afraid that once I had a Barbie doll, I'd want a Dreamhouse and all that stuff. Boy, did I EVER prove her wrong.
What about Zoom? Did any one watch Zoom? Loved that show and used to sing the theme song all the time.
Loved the Electric Company too.
And no one has brought up School House Rock. God, I loved those. When I was an elementary school teacher, I used so many of those songs to teach concepts. The second graders loved them, while the fourth and fifth graders thought I was nuts! Conjunction Junction, Lolly Lolly Get Your Adverbs Here, Interplanet Janet... Heck, it's still the only way I can quote the preamble of the Constitution. (And according to some of my former students, it's the only way they know it too.)
