Or, should I say, :toothless grin:
Did everyone hear how the curse was broken?
Back in early September, Manny hit a foul ball that hit a kid in the mouth, knocking out two of his teeth. This kid *just so happened* to live in... yes, you guessed it, Babe Ruth's house. This happened the very same day that the Yanks lost to another team by a ridiculous 22 points.
Here's the link if you don't believe me: http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2004/09/02/taking_teeth_out_of_curse?pg=full
Just another example of the magic and mystery of baseball...
Let's be kind, shall we? Mr. Rice's tone is earnest enough. If anything was a joke, it would be Robert Ferrell's eBay listing, although something tells me that's a real book as well.
Perhaps this should remind all of us that publishing is a tough business to break into, period. Americans don't like to be told they can't do something. That's why PA and AuthorHouse do a flourishing business.
I shall now return to my customary lurk position.
I had a low-grade heart attack when I showed up here for my daily morning lurk... and found my AW post.
Thank you Teresa, and the rest of the glitterati orbiting Making Light, for the helpful suggestions. I'll shower, I'll eat at least two meals a day, I'll decompress when overwhelmed. Hopefully I'll be able to squelch my introversion and find the guts to approach people.
Now I'm even *more* curious about the identity of the mysterious HapiSofi...
Dear Mr. Pierce/Caruso:
I am an unpublished writer who lurks on this site.
I found your site back in March when I was querying agents, long before this thread or the Absolute Write thread appeared.
I was naive enough to believe that the advice contained in your site came from someone with *real* credentials.
I'm just happy to say that my BS radar detected the 'lie' advice and I didn't follow it. (I also knew better than to cold call an agent). But some of the other stuff you advised (don't put a word count in your query, publishing only works if you have inside connections) I did believe.
While I don't agree with the personal attacks here, I do have to say that these people are defending me and all the other clueless, new writers out there who could be significantly harmed by the "advice" on your site.
