My first exposure to Huffington was her bio "Picasso: Creator and Destroyer" which was a pretty stark takedown of the master as serial abuser of women, a corrective of sorts to the fawning adulation he had received. It's not a nice read, but interesting.
And Tracy Ullman on the Daily Show casting her in the Lisa role in a fictional remake of Green Acres was priceless...

Colin Powell left because he could see the "Night of Long Knives" coming.

Do you all think Andy Sullivan could play the role of Ernst Rhoem this time?

I keep hoping Atlanta will be graced (if that's the word) by a 70+ story tower for Coca-Cola in green glass and red neon in the shape of a giant Coke Bottle...
And it coud sit on a one story 'plinth' who's roof would be painted to resemble a 1940's 'Drink Coca-Cola' tray.

An other interesting site that gives some sense of the coming Chinese Ascendancy is http://skyscraperpage.com/ and go to 'Diagrams''then 'Buildings Under-construction', look at the Buck Rogers quality of the new crop of tall buildings, almost all in China.

More telling, perhaps, is that CNN had given up on CROSSFIRE when they moved it out of the 7 EST slot to 4:30, and cut it to a half hour.
And, at least, pro Wrasslin" (as opposed to Wrestling) is scripted and choreographed as the Ballet.

A couple of weeks back, when Hurricane Ivan flooded the nearby town of Ellijay, GA, the Washington Post reported "Most of northern Georgia's Gilmer County is under water."
I emailed them to say this was wild hypebole, only the floodplains along three rivers and a couple of creeks flooded, destroying some 30 odd homes and several businesses. I continued "A quick check of a topographic map would show that Gilmer County, at the end of the Blue Ridge and the terminus of the Appalachian Trail, has elevations from under 120-0 feet to over 4000 ft. If most of this is under water, my neighboring Fannin Co. has some serious problems."
No response, and certainly no correction. I know this is minor, but reporting was supposed to be about reality, right?

And I still wonder why Pat Lehey and the other Dems don't redouble their fire at Cheney and Halliburton. Where there's blue smoke...

I hope some of youall saw the Billmon 'Whiskey Bar' post "Fondly Farenheit". All my fave sifi authors coming back as arcane references...
Oh bliss.

So, you survived the move? And no, it'll take weeks to sort stuff out.
But it will get better.

Thank God yer ok, except for that moving part. Moving sucks. Sorta like dying and resurrection: you will find our just what you actually have.
If you are a pack rat or in a serious relationship w/ one (you can hit me Teresa), this is the time to get rid of some stuff, and have a yard sale, or the urban equivalent. ANd there is always Goodwill.
Love and peace from Georgia.

and let's not forget the grandddaddy of Texas bashing, Gen. Phil Sheridan (yes, the guy who said "The only good Indian is a dead Indian") who opined "If I owned Hell and Texas, I'd rent out Texas and live in Hell."

I run an inde Bookstore in the wilds of North Georgia, and put Dick and Le Guin in sifi/fantasy because it has to be somewhere. Currently the genre seems to be dominated by the Fantasy work: Robert Jordan and David Eddings seem to be big.
Of Course, I put Stephen King and Anne Rice in sifi too.
And thanx Patrick for the numeric reference to the Alfred Bester Story that is a classic send-up of cliches of the "Golden Age of Science Fiction.
