And now it doesn't. Okay, that was weird. But interesting. Now I'm going to feel the need to check in on your new york life as it turns old enough to drink.

Patrick, was a post entitled "18 years" your first post on this blog? Because the blog seems to think that you'll be making your next post on March 1st 2002.

Jacob: When you make an in joke, those who are out group aren't going to get it. Thats the whole point. They are instead going to be interpreting it through their own filters, and in this case, one of those filters is that that they hate you, and want everyone else to do likewise.

And wrt the communist iconagraphy, I know for a certain fact that their are people out there who will interpret it as revelatory of your true nature and motives and never, ever let it go. The phrase "piles of skulls" will rapidly and begin to figure in your life.

Brad:

Unless you plan to get a great many people to boycott Chirstmas, what you propose will have no finacial impact at all. It will send a message that we don't understand math.

Your second proposal is better, I suppose, although still unlike to have a huge impact; I don't know many people who choose walmart when they can aford otherwise. I may have a selection effect going on.

On the last one, the red states, saving only Florida, aren't exactly big tourism spots anyway.

Personally, and at least until I calm down, I'm going to amusing myself by hoping James Nicoll achieves success with his dreams of a Canadian superpower. If the majority populations of the economically left en mass, those remaining would have to either accept civilization to attract them back or accept life in a sudden third world hell hole. (I don't think this is a good or workable idea either, really. But I like it alot; after the 11 for 11 on gay bashing, I feel like nothing in the world so much as that my country just broke up with me).

I give up. I don't know what else to say. I can't shake this feeling that this is where it all stops, that for the rest of my life, the United States will be decending into oligarchy and destruction; if Kerry couldn't win now, with all thats going on, its clear to me that there is no place for my ideals in this country.

Oh. Never mind my previous crack about seeming topicality. Damn thing just stripped out part of Bill Higgins comment and resused it to give the illusion of participation. Its cunning, in a pathetic kind of way.

I'm really disappointed. I was really ready to welcome the era of my new spambot masters.

Sort of? It seems almost like a logical contribution to the discussion, but with a side of spam. Is someone spaming by hand?

Just thought I should chime in that if anyone did not see Jon Stewart on the Daily show last night, you're missing out. He's getting much, much more aggressive (in a good way, I think) about this over the last year or so, and he seems willing to put it right out in the open now.

In general, I'd go even further, and give felons serving time the vote. In general, my feeling is that if you've got so many felons that they are screwing up the vote, your democracy has probably gone of the rails a bit any how.

The only problem I see with it is that you don't want the inmate population in Joliet IL, say, to have a huge impact on the local school board of Joliet, IL. But you could probably handle that with absentee ballots from their last city of residence.

Xopher: Thats so odd. My girlfriend and I were briefly discussing TNH over the weekend (in the context of knitting, which is how I knew which one we were dicussing). Thing was, we dissused the weblog of Patrica NH, and then moved on, and maybe an hour later I popped up and said "Teresa. Its Teresa and Patrick, not Patrica."

Firstly, thanks to Patrick for the gmail invite.

Second, as part of googles evident pyramid scheme, I now have a number of invites of my own (five, just now), so if you want one, send me an email (james.angove@gmail.com), and I'll set you up; first come first served.
