Um. Scandinavia, *technically geographically*, is the Norway/Sweden peninsula. But yes, more commonly, Denmark as well is being implied. This leads to Iceland and Finland sometimes being included, which is quite wrong.
Which makes us out here in the sticks, as well as the Finns I suspect, want to see 'Nordic' used more.
Besides, what have the Danes ever done for us? we didn't even get aquaducts *g*

I see what you mean about 'glib' but one thing it did for me was it certainly set me on the way on *not* believing in the afterlife. Which I'm suspect might actually be her goal.

On childrens' books, and since Lindgren has been mentioned, her absolute best one is The Brothers Lionheart.
A fantastic tale which also takes in some serious stuff in a very thoughful way, death, afterlife, happiness. Powerful stuff.

abi: Paxman interviewing Bush. One can only dream...
Has Dubya, or Kerry for that matter, *ever* been interviewed in an agresseive manner on TV? Or were the handbags-at-ten-paces debates the only time they were asked anything not scripted. Oh, sorry, they *were* scripted.
And no, it's not much better where I come from.

My feeling from the UK papers online was Blair wanted Kerry in. He never said so explicitly but he never endorsed Bush. Any UKer is welcome to expand/rebut.

I believe that the fundamental tenents of life are, as indeed most major religions manage to say somewhere, and I take here in their familiar biblical way: 'Treat others as you want to be treated' I believe that the rewards for doing this are in no way connected to any post-life existence or in-life bonuses, but merely mental well-being.
I have no belief in any micro-management of individual lives on earth by all-powerful deities since a deity that is powerful enough to jump-start the universe, or even put its finger in the evolution pie cannot be unobservable. Also, any deity involved in such micromanagement would have tuned the distribution curve of man's evil thoughts a few notches towards good, notwithstanding the power that evil has in facilitating progress which eventually leads to a better world.
I concur with cyclopatra's second paragraph above on a creative deity.
I also think that psalms are often extremely powerful and mind affecting and make want to sing them in belief. But to me even more so is the choir of Old Trafford when they (and very occasionally 'we') sing the praises of the team we love.
