In re: Davis v. Simon in California gubernatorial race:
Perhaps it's time we looked beyond the personalities, or even
the performance records, of the two principals in a race for an
executive office, and begin to consider them as a package deal: The
nominee, plus whoever he's going to appoint to positions including
judgeships. A lot of people didn't like Al Gore, for good reasons,
but didn't consider that it wasn't just Al v. W, but all of Gore's
appointees v. all of W's appointees.
Does that change the calculus for a California voter? I don't
know; I live in Illinois. But I know that this fall, when we clear
out the Governor's nest, er, mansion, we'll be getting rid of a lot
more than one corrupt politician.
Sincerely,
Peter Heinricher
