I think Admiral Yamamoto (sp?) had some misgivings about the value of attacking Pearl Harbor. I know the "sleeping giant" line is a myth but I believe he did say that at the most the attack would only buy Japan more time.

What are people drinking these days?

Microbrews ala Midwest, which means a steady diet of Bells Two-Hearted Ale, Schell's Oktoberfest, Capital's Fest, and whatever Summit I can get my hands on.

Richard Thompson: I Feel So Good might be one of the greatest songs of reckless intent ever written.

I think this is the rather obvious and only choice:

I used to work at an insurance company. Out of a department of 70 people, only three others got sci-fi/comics. The rest hadn't a clue. Which started getting me down a little? I didn't think I was that much of an outcast but that place sure made me feel like it.

I started a job with a legal publishing company a couple years ago. Suddenly the geeks outnumbered the rest by a margin of 10 - 1. It was heartening. I knew I was truly at home when someone asked over the cube "I can't remember what the name of the giant statues in Fellowship of the Ring are called." And three people stood up to scold him that it was the Argonath. I had found my home.

Wow, that makes the old Davey & Goliath claymations look like a Pulp Fiction/Fight Club double feature.

A few months back my wife got us new book shelves. So everything came out of the old shelves and then into the new ones. When I came upon my old paperbacks from my teens I did an experiment of reading the first few paragraphs to see if they retained any power. Edgar Rice Burroughs - got old real fast. Kenneth Robeson - the formula was so transparent. Robert E. Howard - I had to stop myself and get back to work after finding I was on the third chapter and still going strong.
