Being close to it can change one's perspective. The destruction isn't generic, it's an attack on their home town and by extension, them. Odds are the jerks causing the problems aren't even from there.
Revolutionary poseurs. There's a long history of these assholes showing up at protests. I had the displeasure of seeing them in Seattle during the WTO meetings.
John, I should have been more clear, I was mainly speaking of the time I worked there, which ended in 2004. In the mean time there have been lay-offs and defections. I can't vouch for the quality of staff there now (although it was excellent in the early part of the decade).
Perhaps most telling is that I haven't used a Real Networks product since I left.
I was a programmer at Real Networks for four years (I was employed by them while attending VP). At my exit interview I was asked what was the worst part of my time there. My answer was all the bad code/web design I was forced to implement by the dictates of the marketing department. They were clueless about web and software design. Any insult or negative comment about the software (most deserved) was always due to something the marketing department made us do. (With the exception of that god-awful downloader, that was the result of an aquisition and contract requirements.)
I wouldn't put too much stock in the Bowie statement. He used to say
and do anything to get exposure. The more outrageous the better. The
statement doesn't even make sense.
Also, Sid Vicious and Souixsie didn't wear swastikas as a political
statement but rather a childish poke in the eye of Britain's polite
society. Several Sex Pistols' songs complain about the British
government being fascist.

Seriously, the only thing bothering me now is dealing with pre-moving crap. It just seems to me that if one responds that a correctly spelled search returns results one should verify that a correctly spelled query actually returns results. If I take too keen an interest in the technical aspect, well it's what I do for a living.
I get proper results with Firefox. The original query was done with IE. Seems like the site isn't testing with the most used browser. Still not very competent.
So I went to aljazeera.net and entered "honour killing" into the search field and I'm shown the first 10 of 500 hits. The headlines of the first 10 results are:

Overview of TV news channels (11/30/2005)
Israel threatens to shut Rafah crossing (11/30/2005)

In these ten articles the word "honour" does not appear. The word "killing" appears in exactly one of the listed articles. When I hit the "next" button I presented with a message saying "Search results. 0-0 of 0". I get the same results with "honour killings". Actually I get the same results no matter what I put into the search field.
Nothing wrong with non-American news sources, just try to pick ones with some competence.

For lunch, I no longer have a choice but to stop at Max's for a hot dog.
I wasn't polled this year, but I was in '96. I said I voted for Dole when in reality I had left the President slot blank. I'm just contrary that way.
Also, has anyone looked to see if there's any correlation between voting patterns and people more likely to go tell the pollster where they can stick their clipboard?
